U13 Div 1, Bridge Celtic A 1-3 Newport Town AFC A

Saturday, October 7 2017 (Bridgetown)

Scorers: Conor Brett, Alex O’Toole & O.G.

Newport Town travelled to top of the table Bridge Celtic on Saturday morning facing a team with a 100% record in the league to date. Newport produced their best performance of the year to come away with a vital win.

The first 10 minutes were nip and tuck and Newport had to defend a number of early corners as Bridge applied some early pressure. However Newport slowly got a foothold in the game. David Healy was sitting in front of the back four and helped Newport get a foothold in the game. Conor Brett and Aaron Coleman in midfield started to get on the ball with Ryan O’Keefe and Sean Reddington providing width on the flanks and both playing balls in behind the defense for Alex O’Toole to latch on to. There were a couple of half chances but the opening goal came from pressure been applied to the back four by a number of Newport players which led to a corner. Alex O’Toole whipped in the Corner and Newport challenged and the ball hit one of the Bridge defenders and went into the net to put Newport 1 up. Newport then switched off and let Bridge back in the came almost immediately from the kick off. Half time score was 1-1. Continue reading

U13 Div 3, Regional United C 3-5 Newport Town AFC B

Saturday, October 7 2017 (Dooradoyle)

Scorers: Nathan Walsh 4 & David Whelton

We travelled to Dooradoyle to play Regional on Saturday with a depleted squad. A few of our lads were injured or couldn’t make the game. Dave Grant gave us 2 players from the U12B team Conor O’Brien & David Whelton. Both players played absolutely brilliant as if they were playing with us the whole time. So Mike Lyons & myself(Andrew Gleeson) would like to thank Dave Grant for his help.

The game started off with both teams playing good attacking football. Conor O’Brien was fantastic on the left side of midfield with some lovely runs & crosses into the box. Our midfield of Mikey Carroll, Danny O’Keefe & David O’Brien were outstanding and took control of the game. 10 mins into the game Nathan Walsh was put through with a lovely pass from David O’Brien & he finished with a lovely shot passed the keeper. Nathan grabbed his hat trick before half time with 2 lovely goals. We went in 3-1 at halftime. Continue reading

U13, Div 3, Newport Town AFC B 0-3 Aisling Annacotty C

Friday, August 25 2017 (Derryleigh Park)

We opened our new season with a league game at home in Derryleigh against a lively Aishling side. We started the better of the 2 sides with some great chances from David O’Brien & Mikey Carroll from midfield but just couldn’t convert them. With the new freedom of the big open pitch Taylor McGill & Robbie Murray played some lovely stuff in the first half on the wings putting some lovely crosses in for Brían Corrigan & Paddy Hussey up front but they were met by an inform Aishling keeper. Our defence of Chris Maloney, Darragh Manning, Tommy Lyons & Jamie Gleeson were immense with some lovely defending keeping Aishling’s forward to very few chances & anything that did make it through Adam O’Connell was there in goals to clean up. Unfortunately just before halftime a mix up between Jamie & Adam let Aishling in for a very soft goal & going in at half time behind was hard to take. Continue reading

U13, Div 1, Summerville Rovers 1-5 Newport Town AFC A

Friday, August 25 2017 (Portland Park)

Scorers: Conor Brett 3, Alex O’Toole & Cillian English

Newport got their season off to a flying start with a 5-1 win at Summerville. Newport started well but it took a great save from Mark Forde in the opening minutes of the game to deny Summerville.

Newport were causing havoc out wide and a super early cross by Conor Molamphy was turned home by Conor Brett. A few minutes later it was 2-0 with Conor Brett scoring from a free kick that was missed by everyone and crept in. Newport were dominating now and Conor played in Cillian who kept his cool to finish into the corner. Conor got his hat trick just before half time. Newport also hit the woodwork 3 times in the first half through Aaron twice, Alex and the two Conor’s. Newport continued to be strong at the back with Daire, David, Jack and Christopher dominating and supplying the wingers and midfielders with good possession. In midfield Sean and Aaron were putting in big shifts to keep Newport on the front foot. Continue reading

Newport Town AFC travelled to UL on Sat 20th of May to contest the U13 Div 1 LDSL Cup Final.

Newport now pushed on in the second half and a cross from Adam McEvoy was finished to the net by Diarmuid O’Riordan to make it 2-0.

U13 Schoolboys secure the League & Cup Double

Newport Town AFC U13A LDSL Div 1 League & Cup Winners 2016/2017

Well done to the U13A players & their coaches, Peter Coleman & Eoin Bonfield on securing the LDSL Div 1 league & cup double this morning in U.L. following their 5-0 cup final victory over a very good Janesboro side who made the lads work very hard their win. This group are a super bunch of down to earth lads, who work very hard hard for one another and just want to play football. They have fun every time they step on the pitch at training or at game time, whether they win, lose or draw. They are an absolute credit to themselves, their coaches and families and everyone in the club couldn’t be any prouder of the way they play and how well they represent the club at all times. Enjoy the celebrations lads and you can now look forward to the even greater challenge of premier football next season.
