U14 Premier, Newport Town AFC A 0-4 Corbally United A

Monday, April 16 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

A disappointing result but giving the awful weather on the evening they lads struggled with the conditions and were beaten by physically stronger team on the evening.

U14 Premier, Newport Town AFC A 1-1 Aisling Annacotty A

Wednesday, April 4 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorer: Lee Ryan

Newport U14A welcomed Aisling for the return League game in the Limerick Premier league. This was a much-anticipated game after the teams had played out a cracking 2-2 draw in the first league game of the season in Annacotty. You could not have had a better game after the defeat to Fairview on Good Friday.

Again, Newport started slowly and were down 1-0 early in the first half. Now under pressure they defended very well with a couple of moments of concern but the lads worked hard and showed great commitment & desire to keep the score-line to 1-0.

Early in the second half, Newport were awarded a free and with a great effort from Diarmuid O’Riordan which was saved by the Aisling keeper, Lee Ryan was on hand to score the rebound.

Newport were now playing well and creating more chances but were unable to take them.

Aisling also pressed hard in the second half but Newport defended resolutely and the match ended all square. Well done to all concerned for a great team performance.

U14 Premier League, Fairview Rangers A 4-1 Newport Town AFC A

Friday, March 30 2018 (Fairgreen)

Scorer: Shaun Bonfield

Newport travelled to play Fairview on Good Friday evening last in what was only their second league game since December.

This game turned out to be a learning curve for both players and management as faced with a physically stronger team they acquitted themselves well.

Although losing the game 4-1 the boys worked hard and stayed in the game when other teams would have dropped their heads. This bodes well for their future development as they did not give up.

2-0 down early in the first half they battled back to 2-1 courtesy of a Shaun Bonfield goal only to concede 2 late goals.

A special mention must go to Craig O’Connell who stepped into goals at short notice and acquitted himself well in the game.

U14 Premier, Newport Town AFC A 3-1 Mungret Regional A

Saturday, February 24 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Lee Ryan, Alex O’Toole & Shane O’Halloran

Newport Town U14 team resumed their League campaign after nearly a break of three months due to the weather. They welcomed Mungret/Regional on Saturday morning last.

This game started with Newport dominating possession and creating chances especially from great work by Lee Ryan who was creating chances but with the lads not converting the chances. Newport were hit with a breakaway goal just before half time-1 nil down at the break.

Newport now had to up the pace in the second half and created some chances and eventually got the equalizer through Lee Ryan. With a couple of subs brought Newport pressed again and Alex O’Toole cut in and finished well with a low drive to the bottom corner with the keeper not able to save his effort.

Newport, now playing some good football played the ball out to Shane O Halloran who’s looping shot deceived the goalkeeper and finished in the net.

3-1 to Newport. A good result but we need to keep up effort to the end of the season.

U14 Premier, Regional United A 1-1 Newport Town AFC A

Saturday, December 9 2017 (Dooradoyle)

Scorer: Diarmuid O’Riordan

Newport travelled to play Regional in the return match of the League in Dooradoyle on Saturday morning. After going 6 weeks without playing a game it was a welcome return to action. The game was played on Regional’s astro turf and was a good experience for the lads.Newport started well but conceded a sloppy goal and were now on the back foot. They played their way back into the game and equalised with a well taken free kick by Diarmuid O’Riordan. 1-1 at half time. The second half a was a tight affair but there was no further scores. Newport have enjoyed the the step up to the premier league and have made a steady start to the league. Now with Christmas break upon us we will resume action in the New Year.
