Thanks to everyone who came along to support the lads on such a miserable day. Best of luck to Killarney Celtic in the remainder of the competition as they are a side no other sides will want to come up against.

U16 National Cup, 1st Round, Newport Town 2-1 Aisling Annacotty

Saturday, September 16 2017 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Jack Foley & Jay Ryan

Massive well done to our U16 schoolboys who today secured an excellent 2-1 home victory over Aisling Annacotty A in the SFAI National Cup with goals from Jack Foley & Jay Ryan. A superb result given that we had four U15s in our side and were underdogs against a side that currently lead the LDSL Premier League. Newport took the lead through Jack Foley on 20 minutes and kept their noses in front until half-time.

In the second half Aisling exerted plenty of pressure, which paid off when they scored their equaliser. However the Newport lads, defying their underdog status, did not not let their heads drop and instead squeezed Aisling high up the park and their work-rate and effort was rewarded when Jay Ryan was on hand to tuck away a Jack Foley cross and put Newport back in front. The end to the game was nervy stuff with Aisling throwing the kitchen sink at Newport but the lads held firm and left nothing out on the pitch to ensure that we advanced to the next round of the competition, where they will welcome Holycross to Derryleigh Park in round 2.

Well done lads and best of luck in the next round.
