Saturday, December 9 2017 (Villa Park)
It was a beautiful crisp fresh morning when our under 12 girls travelled up to Villa Park for the top of the table clash with Killavilla. We had a full squad for the first time this season and we were confident we could get a result but from the off we were on the back foot. We just never turned up we made a lot of basic mistakes and were punished for them. At half time we were 4 down.
We regrouped at half time and the girls put in much better performance in the second half but it was not to be. The final score was 5-0. We learned a valuable lesson on Saturday that we need to be training twice a week when playing competitive soccer. We will regroup for after Christmas and go again.
Happy Christmas from the under 12 girls and coaches. 🎄

Saturday, November 11 2017 (Borrisokane)
Scorers: Jane Ryan 3, Aoife Mellerick 2 & Ciebha Guidera
Another eventful day today as our under 12 girls travelled to Borrisokane.
It was a wet and miserably day but or girls were in high spirits. The match was delayed because of a bad crash we met on the way. When the match eventually got started our girls started strong and opened the scoring on the 10 minute mark through Jane Ryan. Or second came 10 minutes later when Ciebha Guidera scored her first competitive in soccer. The first half ended 2-0. The Newport girls started to turn the screw in the second half and put Borrisokane under big pressure but their goalkeeper was strong and made some great saves. Jane Ryan broke down the left and slotted home her 2nd about 15 mins into the second half. Heather O’Neill again played well in defence. Aoife Mellerick put in another good performance and added 2 more goals and or girl of the match Jane Ryan scored our 6th and her hat trick and only for their good keeper she could have scored 6, Well done girls on another great win and clean sheet.

Scorers: Lauren Bailey & Jane Ryan
This morning the under 12 girls hosted Ballymackey who have no less than 6 girls on the North Tipp team. It was a wet dull morning but that didn’t stop both teams from giving us a great game. Newport started on top and Lauren Bailey opened the scoring on the 20th minute. Aoife Mellerick attacked the Ballymackey goal with menace but it was Jane Ryan who made a brilliant under 12 debut that scored our 2nd goal just before half time. Ballymackey came back strong in the second half scoring with about 15 minutes to go and putting us under big pressure trying to find the equaliser. But our defence was rock solid with Muireann Ryan and Caoimhe Troy. But our girl of the match was Heather O’Neill who cleared all before her. Well done girls. Great win.
Team: Lauren Bailey, Lucy Bailey, Caoimhe Troy, Caoimhe Healy, Jane Ryan, Eimear Ryan, Muireann Ryan, Aoife Mellerick, Cliodhna Lenihan & Heather O’Neill

Congratulations to our schoolgirl players, Shauna Pearson & Robyn McNamara (U12), Abbie Lenihan (U13) and Rachel Carey (U14), who have been selected to attend trials for the North Munster Emerging Talent Programme. The trials will take place in Pike Rovers this Wednesday. Yet another great honour for the players and recognition of the great strides made in schoolgirls football in our club in the past few years.
Last Wednesday, ten of our schoolgirl players had the honour of representing Newport Town AFC at the FAI Soccer Sisters Festival in the Aviva Stadium. Newport Town AFC was one of the 8 clubs selected to participate due to the fact that our recent Easter Soccer Sisters Camp was the largest and most successful in the country. The road to the Aviva in May is now a well-worn path for the girls as this is the third year running that NTAFC has been one of the select few clubs to qualify for the event. Continue reading

NTAFC U12 Girls Green team completed a great day for the club last Saturday by winning the NTSFL U12 Cup Final, shortly after our U12 Red team had just won the Shield final. Killavilla were the league champions and were unbeaten all season which is a major achievement for any team. But this was a cup final and the Newport girls under the management of Robert Bailey and Micheal Lenihan went out to give it their all and they sure delivered on a 2-1 scoreline with a goal from Emily Hurley and an O.G. Newport Town AFC Reds 3 – 1 Lough Derg (Shauna Pearson 2 & Robyn McNamara).
Our U12 Red team finished their season off in style winning the NTSFL Shield Final in Glenbane, Holycross on Saturday, April 1 under the management of John O Hora. All the girls put in a stellar performance and were deserving winners. Click here for lots of images from the game.

Newport scorers: Shauna Pearson 2 & Robyn McNamara
Newport went into the game feeling nervous but with a determination that we weren’t going to leave this match behind. From the start both teams battled fiercely, it took a moment of brilliance from Shauna Pearson to put Newport 1 up ,a run up along the right wing, shot from far out and the ball finished in the top left hand corner of the net, super stuff. Our backs Mollie & Eimear put in massive tackles, nothing was getting past them, and Robyn Moloney fought for possession bravely time after time. Our midfield of Eve, Robyn and Shauna played with great passing movements and runs. About 5 minutes from half time Lough Derg got a soft penalty for a handball in the box which they converted. 1 all at half time. This made the girls more determined for the 2nd half. Our 3 subs Muireann, Meabh and Eimear all played their part when called upon, well done girls. About 10 minutes into the half Shauna struck again with great link up play from Robyn; the girls were in top form now. 5 minutes later Robyn McNamara scored her own goal. At this stage we just closed the shop! Again our backs stood strong, now with had 3 at the back to finish it out. Special mention must go to Heather in goals who played brilliantly, one for the future. Overall a great win, with the girls putting in a massive work rate. The girls deserve the trophy after all their hard work during the year training in all weathers, they each have MASSIVE hearts. Thanks to each and every one of them for their hard work throughout the year. Also big congrats to our U12 counterparts on winning the cup, overall a great day for Newport Town AFC girls contingent.
