U14 Girls v Knigh Oct 8 2016
Saturday, October 8 2016 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport scorers: Abbie Lenihan & Leah Moran

This Saturday Newport U14 girls hosted the 2015 league title holders Knigh in what was to be a bruising physical encounter.

Both teams came out in the first half determined not to give an inch. Newport mids and forwards Roisin Power, Abbie Lenihan, Rachel Carey and Skye Sheehy made a number of strong breaks and kept the pressure on what was a very strong Knigh defence. Equally, our backs Sarah Finn, Kate Harvey, Amber Deegan and Sarah Kelly had to soak up a lot of pressure from some strong attacking play from the opposition. The girls held firm, their patience and determination was rewarded by a great goal from Abbie Lenihan just before the break. HT Newport 1 – Knigh 0 Continue reading

U14 Girls, Newport Town AFC 1 – 1 Clodiagh Rangers

Saturday, September 24 2016 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport scorer: Abbie Lenihan

Newport u14 girls hosted Clodiagh Rangers on Saturday afternoon. The heavy rain cleared off for what was to be an epic encounter between the #1 and #2 on the NTSFL league table.

Newport started strong, showing intent from early in the game by creating several attacking chances. Breaks from our mids Rachel Carey, Roisin Power, Skye Sheehy, Abbie Lenihan and forward Kaitlyn Bradshaw kept the Clodiagh Rangers defence on its toes. Newport hit the crossbar a few times and had a few shots saved. 20 minutes into the half Abbie broke up the middle and scored a screamer.

The second half started with the same intensity and the girls made the breaks and created the chances, but just could not convert their effort into a goal.

The Newport defence of Emma Moloney (GK) Kate Harvey, Amber Deegan, Sarah Kelly, Milla Harte and Leah Moran were put through their paces as the visitors tried to equalize. They hung on bravely until 5 minutes before full time when against the run of play the opposition pounced on the slightest of chances to score the equalizer.
