Our annual end-of-season awards ceremony took place in a packed Community Centre last Friday and proved once again to be a very enjoyable evening. The size of the crowd and the number of players in attendance really shows that the club continues to get bigger and stronger every year. The club’s Chairperson, Ger Healy welcomed everyone before the Event M.C, Dave Noble gave a rundown of the achievements both on and off the field during the past season including league & cup honours, players selected for league representative teams, sold out Easter & Summer Camps, the growth in playing numbers and developments in Derryleigh Park. As we continue to grow year on year to cater for the youth in the local community, he had a special thanks for the coaches, assistant coaches etc who give endless hours of their time to our young players. The parents were also acknowledged for their continued support and co-operation.
All of our younger non-competitive players received a medal and certificate from the club, while the competitive players from the under 12’s right up to the under 16’s, were in contention for Most Improved Player and Player of the Year Awards. With the new season just a few short weeks away, membership of NTAFC for the coming 2018/2019 season is now open. As an amateur volunteer based football club, we’ve committed to meeting the repayments on the clubhouse loan in excess of €250,000, bringing the total investment to date of €1.2m in Derryleigh Park. We see this as an investment in our local youth, their future as well as being a valuable resource for our community. Everyone’s support and patronage of the club, helps make our vision a reality.

Scorers: Kaitlyn Bradshaw 3, Rosie Quirke, Rachel Carey & Skye Sheehy
Wednesday evening saw the NTAFC u15 girls travel to Killavilla to face Knigh Utd in the Shield final.
It was clear from the second the whistle blew for kick off that our girls were there to play. They started strong and within a few minutes Kaitlyn Bradshaw buried the ball in the back of the net for the first goal. Some strong attacking play from the backs Roisin Power, Sarah Finn, Eimear Carey, Amber Deegan and Goalie Chelsea King meant that our mids and forwards Skye Sheehy, Abbie Lenihan, Kaitlyn, Rachel Carey, Ava Shinners and Carragh Flynn always had a clean supply of ball and this constant pressure saw Skye take an opportunistic rebound from the Knigh keeper blasting it into the net for the second goal. It was not all plain sailing for Newport as Knigh upped the intensity with a number of breaks but on the rare occasion that they broke through they were met by a determined keeper in Chelsea clearing her lines bravely. Just before the break Kaitlyn took a cross from Rachel on the volley that would make any premiership striker green with envy to claim her second goal of the night. HT Newport 3 – Knigh 0
The second half started intensely, Knigh were fighting hard to get back into the game. The strength and depth of our squad came into play as Leah Moran, Kate Harvey, Sarah Kelly Leah Guerin, Rosie Quirke, and Emma Moloney brought fresh legs and even greater determination. About 5 mins into the half, a rebound off a Knigh defender found the right boot of Rachel who made no mistake putting it past the keeper. Mid-way through the half Kaitlyn rounded off a seasons best performance by connecting with another quality cross from Rachel to get her hat-trick. Leah and Kate were through on the keeper but just caught offside. Rosie fought hard in the box to get the ball across the chalk to bring the tally to 6. FT Newport 6 – Knigh 0 Continue reading

Scorer: Abbie Lenihan
A bitterly cold morning in Roscrea set the scene for the Newport U15 girls fixture vs Killavilla. Coming to the business end of the league now and all teams are hungry for the points. This is very evident on the pitch with each encounter proving to be a bruising competitive battle.
The Newport girls had a slow start conceding 2 goals within the first 10 mins but the girls rallied and showed great character to compose themselves and tighten up their fight back. They created many chances but the Villa keeper was in inspired form denying at least 4 shots on target. Late in the half Abbie Lenihan found herself at the end of a brilliant cross by Leah Moran and buried the ball in the back of the net! HT Killavilla 2 – Newport 1. Continue reading
