Summer Soccer Camp:
What a great week! 5 days, 150 kids, 10 coaches, 1 astro-turf pitch, 2 grass pitches, 100’s of goals, 1,000’s of smiles and countless hours of fun. Even the weather played its part. All good things must come to an end and so it was last Friday afternoon when all of the children received their certificates for their participation in the Newport Town AFC FAI Summer Soccer School. We hope that every boy & girl who took part had a great time and made lots of new friends.
The camp doesn’t just happen by accident and there are lots of people to thank. Firstly, the coaches who made the camp such a special & fun place from the very first minute to the last. Thanks guys & girls, you were all simply amazing.
Our campers, the boys & girls who were so well behaved, enthusiastic and good humoured all week long. Ye were absolutely brilliant and there is definitely some future super stars amongst you.
The parents who were patient and co-operative all week at drop-off and collection times. We know that the car park was ‘fun’ at times, so thank you.
The car park stewards who ensured that everything ran smoothly and were always smiling and helpful.
The club Chairman & committee who welcomed the coaches, children and parents to NTAFC with open arms and did their very best to ensure that everyone enjoyed themselves.
The ground staff who made sure that the pitches were prepared ahead of the camp and kept in pristine condition all week long.
We hope we didn’t forget anyone, if so, sorry.

All junior sides are now back in pre-season training for the new season, which commences in mid-August. The under 18s played out a 2-2 draw with Caledonians last Thursday, while the Junior A team beat the same opposition 6-4 on Sunday. The team included some new & returning players and a nice blend of youth & experience. This was a good workout for the lads.
Work continues on our new Clubhouse and everything is on schedule for the official opening on Sunday, August 27, when FAI CEO, John Delaney, will be in Derryleigh Park to cut the ribbon. This will be a truly memorable and historic day for both the club and our local community. We will have lots of activities on the day for all the family and everyone is welcome to come along. Lots more details closer to the big day but be sure to save the date.
There was no winner of last week’s lotto. The lucky numbers were 17, 18, 20 & 26. This week’s jackpot is €1,300 and the draw will take place in McGrath’s Bar on Saturday night. Thanks as always to everyone who supports the club’s main fund raiser.
