None of our junior sides were in action last weekend. However, well done to our players Darren Collins & Jack Noble who played in the Limerick League Youths U18 side who beat the Galway League 3-2 in their first game in the FAI Inter-League tournament in Jackman Park last Friday evening. Next Sunday is a free day for all junior soccer nationally due to the FAI Cup Final taking place in the Aviva Stadium, therefore none of our sides will be in action.
Newport Town AFC have been drawn away to Granville Rangers in the 4th round of the FAI Junior Cup, with the game due to be played on or before November 11. This is the last local round before the out-of-town stages.
Our U12B side were the only competitive side in action last weekend, when they welcomed Corbally Utd to Derryleigh Park on a bitterly cold but sunny Saturday morning. Cathal McNamara was the star of the show, when he scored all four goals in their 4-3 win in a highly entertaining and exciting game.
One of our U8 sides and both our U10 sides were in non-competitive action. U9s were home to Caherconlish and the U10s were home to Pike and away to Bridge Celtic. All a morning, perfect for soccer despite the cold, all the teams were involved in very exciting games that provided all the supporters with some super entertainment and no shortage of great skill & determination from all players. Well done everyone.
Next Saturday sees the odds age groups in action. The two U7 sides are home to Aisling Annacotty and Caherconlish (9.45am). The two U11 sides are home to Regional Utd and away to Aisling Annacotty (11am) and the U13A side are away to Bridge Celtic (11am).
The U10, U13 & U18 sides were in action. The U13s welcomed Shinrone to Derryleigh Park and ran out winners on a 10-5 scoreline in a very entertaining game. An unusual aspect of the game was the fact that three hat-tricks were scored, two of whcch were scored by the Bailey sisters, Lucy & Lauren. Aoife Mellerick also scored three, while Clodagh Healy was the other scorer.
The U18 girls enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win away to Lough Derg with goals from Chelsea King (4) & Kaitlyn Bradshaw. However the game was overshadowed by an injury to one of our players. All in the club would like to wish a speedy recovery to Ailish Carey, who suffered a bad leg injury during the game. We all hope that Ailish is on the mend quickly and we look forward to seeing her back on the pitch sooner rather than later.
The U10s enjoyed a blitz in Derryleigh Park with teams from Lough Derg, Moneygall & Holycross taking part. The girls had great fun with lots of game time for them all with their friends.
Next Saturday, the U16s are away to Cashel in the National Cup (12.00pm), U12s are away to Knigh Utd (11.30am) and the U14s are home to Holycross (1.30pm)
The U18 Girls have been drawn at home to Askeaton in the FAI National Cup Quarter Final. The game is scheduled for Derryleigh Park on Saturday, November 10 at 2pm. Really something special for the girls, coaches & supporters to look forward to.

Please only donate goods that are of saleable condition. Your support on the day would be much appreciated also. All proceeds will go to the Soccer Club. If you are trying to lose weight and are able to stay focused by yourself – that’s great, well done! However if you succeed better with a weekly weighing by another person why not come to Newport Town AFC Clubhouse on Wednesday evenings between 6.45 and 7.45pm. Cost is €5 joining fee and €3 a week weigh in.
Last Man Standing
Just 3 players remained from the original 167 entrants as we entered Round 10 last weekend. Denise O’Sullivan, Finn Chambers & Robbie Bailey all selected Watford. As their team won, all of them move into Round 11. Who will be the last one standing?
There was no winner of the club’s lotto on Saturday, October 27 and this week’s jackpot is €4,700 with the next draw taking place on Saturday, November 3 in Lee’s . The numbers drawn were 3, 6, 12 & 22. Thanks as always to everyone who supports the club’s main fund raiser.
