Junior A, FAI Junior Cup, Rd 4, Granville Rangers 2-4 Newport Town Town AFC

Sunday, November 11 2018 (Glenwood)

Scorers: Christy Doyle 2, Davy Ryan & Brian O’Sullivan

It was a historic & memorable day for our club last Sunday, as for the first time in our 48 year history, we have made it through to the out of town stages (last 64) of the FAI Junior Cup following the 4-2 win away to Granville. Despite going 2 goals behind in the first 6 minutes, the lads didn’t panic and having brought the game level at 2-2 at half-time, thanks to goals from Christy Doyle & Davy Ryan, Newport dominated the second half and further goals from Christy Doyle & Brian O’Sullivan ensured our safe passage into round 5. All eyes will be on the draw that’s due to take place on Tuesday, Nov 13, to see if we are home or away and to which of the other 63 teams from all over Ireland that we will face in the next round. Well done to Marc Barry and his squad on this great achievement.

UPDATE: We have been drawn at home to Carbury FC of the Sligo / Leitrim Disrict League with the game provisionally scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 2 in Derryleigh Park.
