U17 Girls, BT Harps 1-1 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, November 17 2018 (Templemore)

Scorer: Kaitlyn Bradshaw

Newport U17 girls traveled to Templemore to take on the league leaders BT Harps last Saturday. BT, clearly hungry to take the points, started with great intensity and had our girls under pressure for the first 25 minutes. Our defense of Carragh Flynn, Sarah Finn, Eimear Carey, Amber Deegan, Kate Harvey and early substitute Hollie Coleman put in a huge effort to hold them out. Emma Moloney (GK) had to make a number of saves in the first half. The team settled with our mids and forwards Kaitlyn Bradshaw, Leah Moran, Ava Shinners, Rachel Carey and Roisin Power making a number of breaks only to be denied by the BT defense. Towards the end of the half, BT managed to score. HT 1 – 0.

Newport knowing that they would have to up the intensity, started the second half with commendable determination. The hard work paid off in the form of a goal from Kaitlyn who squeezed the ball between the front post and defender from a beautifully taken corner. Substitutes Skye Sheehy. Jenny Keppel, Anzelika Lepika and Leona Burke brought in the fresh legs throughout the half. The rest of the match was a pretty evenly matched affair with neither team giving an inch. FT 1 -1.

A valuable away point against a strong side, well done to the girls
