U17 Girls, Newport Town AFC 6-2 Lough Derg

Saturday, October 20 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Chelsea King 3, Kaitlyn Bradshaw, Ava Shinners & Rachel Carey

The sun was shining in Newport Saturday morning for the first meeting of Newport against Lough Derg in the U17 group.

Newport got off to a great start piling on the pressure on Lough Derg, creating a lot of chances but the Lough Derg defence held solid for most of the half until eventually Kaitlyn Bradshaw scored off a well taken corner. With Newport 1-0 up. Lough Derg came looking for the equaliser and were rewarded a penalty before half time, but Emma Moloney was brave in goals. Half time 1-0.

Newport started the 2nd half like they did the first, but this time they broke down the Lough Derg defence with 3 goals coming from (1) Chelsea King great strike from the edge of the box (2) Excellent free kick from Rachel Carey, (3) great finish from Ava Shinnors. Newport were 4-0 up and the full squad were all playing their part. Lough Derg didn’t drop their heads and got 2 good goals to pull it back to 4-2. Newport were not going to let this one go and Chelsea King stepped up and took 2 great goals to close the game out. Final Score 6-2.

Overall this was a good day out for Newport with the Goalkeeper and defence comfortable for most of the game, midfield and attack creating lots of chances and scoring 6 goals. Thanks to all the U15’s for stepping up and a callout to Hollie on her first game for Newport.
