U9, Futsal Blitz (non-competitive)

Saturday, November 8 (Galvone)

Our U9 team played their first Futsal blitz of the season today in Galvone. FUTSAL is the fastest growing sector in world football. The name derives from the Spanish and Portuguese phrases for indoor soccer – Futbol Sala and Futebol de Salao. It is a small sided game most strongly associated with Brazil, Spain and Portugal, but it is growing in popularity here in Ireland. Futsal promotes skill, composure and quick-thinking and it is great fun too!

With a good turnout of players, we had 2 teams in action during the morning. Both of the Newport teams played really well.

Newport 1, played enjoyable games against Limerick FC, Holycross and Lisnagry and the squad was Cillian Collins, Calvin Doyle, Conor Sweeney, Abigail Hickey, Jack Hayes, Liam Coffey and Aaron O’Flaherty.

Newport 2, played Shelbourne, Pike and Lisnagry 3 and the squad was Luke Fitzgerald, Zach Mooney, Brian McCabe, Sean Wrynn, Evan Freeman, Darragh McGrath and Harry Lee.

The players tackled well, did great at defending and passing the ball and most importantly enjoyed themselves.
