If your children are using our astro-turf or pitches during their summer holidays, please talk to them about binning their litter. It is not only unsightly but also dangerous to players of all ages when training or playing matches. There are plenty of bins around Derryleigh Park, so please remind them to use them for their rubbish. Please share this message. Thank you.
The club’s AGM took place on Saturday, June 8 in our Derryleigh Park clubhouse. Outgoing Chairman, Ger Healy welcomed everyone and and thanked them for their attendance. There was a minute’s silence for all deceased members including former player Terry Cullimore who recently passed away. Last year’s minutes were read before Secretary, Ailbe Coffey, gave a very comprehensive report on the club’s activities over the past 12 months. The length of the report highlights the current size of the club and how busy we are both on and off the pitch. Both the Chairman & Secretary, in their respective addresses, thanked the managers, assistants, all volunteers and the supporters of all our teams, both junior and underage for their efforts all season. Outgoing Treasurer, Ger O’Brien gave an update on the club’s finances and no issues arose. Child Welfare Officer, Micheál Lenihan, gave his report and once again emphasised the importance of child welfare within the club. Team reports were then read out for all teams from the Junior A side all the way down to the Newport Nippers. With 500 players and more than 30 teams, there was lots of reading in these reports. The Election of Committee & Executive Committee members then took place. Tom O’Malley replaces Ger Healy as Chairperson, while Ger Healy replaces Ger O’Brien as Treasurer. Ailbe Coffey & Micheál Lenihan remain on as Secretary & Child Welfare Officer respectively, while Dave Noble returns as Club P.R.O.
Ger O’Brien, Andrew Gleeson, Tom Hickey, Mike Lyons and Vivienne Keane stood down from the committee and their service was acknowledged. The Committee members re-elected were Denis O’Sullivan, Richard Egan, Tim Coffey, Marc Barry & Mike O’Donoghue. A new committee member for the 2019/2020 season is Lar Kennedy. Good luck to the incoming committee for the season ahead in what continue to be exciting & busy times for the club both on and off the pitch as we enter our 50th anniversary in 2020.

The top two sides in Div 1B, Newport Town & Hill Celtic contested the Calvert Cup Final in a sun-soaked Jackman Park on Saturday evening. The large crowd in attendance witnessed a cracking cup final between two very evenly-matched sides. Ultimately the game was decided by two great strikes from the division’s top scorer, Christy Doyle, to ensure that the trophy crossed the border to North Tipperary and will reside in Derryleigh Park for the next 12 months following a hard-earned 2-0 win.
