LDL, Div 1A, Newport Town AFC 3 – 2 Shannon Town (Brian O’Sullivan 2 & Paul Ryan)

Div 1A Table – April 5

Sunday, April 5 (Derryleigh Park)

On a beautiful Easter Sunday morning in Derryleigh Park, Newport began the game against Shannon knowing that 3 points was a must if we were to keep our promotion hopes alive. In a game full excitement of drama, tension and last minute controversy, the lads showed great fighting spirit to grind out a 3-2 win over Shannon with the crucial goals coming from Paul Ryan and Captain, Brian ‘Clemy’ O’Sullivan with a brace. This win moves us to the top of the table with 2 games left, albeit having played a game more than Wembley, Mungret Regional & Kilmallock. Continue reading

NTAFC U9 Blitz – March 28 2015

U9 Blitz Derryleigh March 28 2015

U9 Blitzers

Saturday, March 28 (Derryleigh Park)

Our second under 9 squad enjoyed their first outdoor blitz of the season, when they welcomed Bridge Celtic, Aisling Annacotty & Limerick FC to Derryleigh Park.

Unfortunately, the weather conditions were very bad with a very strong wind. The first match was against Bridge Celtic. Newport played against the wind in the first half. We had a slow start to the game and by half time we were 4 nil down. But the second half was a different game. Newport scored 4 goals within 10 mins, a fantastic turn around. Goals scored by David O’Brien (2) and Damien O’Brien (2). Final score 4 all. The Newport team played fantastic and made a brilliant come back. Continue reading

LDSL, U10 Greens, Mungret Regional 2 – 2 Newport Town AFC (Michael Gibson & Cillian English)

Monday, March 30 (Mungret)

Newport travelled to Mungret for their first evening kick-off of the season. The team were full of hope, given their strong second half finish to the last game.

Bryan won the toss and Town played with the wind and downhill in the first half. Within minutes Newport were bearing in on goal and Michael fired a blistering strike (wind assisted) just over the bar. Mungret were playing well and started to come into the game. The defence held firm with Ruadh, Mark and Alex keeping them at bay. Newport raced down the left and  Bryan and Sean played a couple of one/two’s and forced a corner. Newport’s first goal started from the back, Ruadh passed neatly to Sean through the middle and the move was finished superbly by Cillian who struck from the right of the box. Continue reading

LDSL, U10 Reds, Newport Town AFC 1 – 4 Regional Utd. (Conor Brett)

Monday, March 30 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport U10’s took on Regional Utd in wet and windy conditions on Monday Evening. It was not an evening suitable for constructive football but the team battled hard and tried to pass the ball around.

The first half was a cagey affair with a couple of chances on both ends. Daire Cantillon, Conor Malampy and Conor Brett all had shots on targets but Newport continued to searched for the breakthrough. The half time score was 0-0. Continue reading

NTAFC U9s Blitz – March 28 2015

U9 Blitz Squad

U9 Blitz Squad

Saturday, March 28 (Shelbourne Park)

This season, due to the big numbers, we have two under 9 squads. On Saturday morning, half of the Part of the Newport U-9 squad travelled to Shelbourne Park to take on teams from Shelbourne, Mungret and Aisling Annacotty in what was their first ever blitz.

The lads had a tough time of it but they stuck to the task and kept fighting right to the end and will have gained valuable experience for the future.

LDSL, U15 Div 1, Shelbourne 0 – 9 Newport Town AFC (Colin Coleman 3, Nathan Hartigan 2, Evan Geraghty, Jordan Mooney, Calum Grant & Stephen Ryan)

Saturday, March 28 (Shelbourne Park)

Our under 15 side travelled to Shelbourne Park to take on Shelbourne FC. After going through a recent poor spell, this game was a great opportunity for the lads to gain some momentum for their remaining league games and hopefully a decent cup run. They certainly did it in style by recording a comfortable 9-0 victory over a plucky Shelbourne side. Continue reading

LDSL, U11 Div 1, Newport Town AFC 4 – 0 Limerick FC (Lee Ryan 3, Aaron Coleman)

Saturday, March 28 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport Town AFC went into this match on the back of a poor result in the last match against Geraldines. They knew they had to perform better and attack Limerick FC from the start. A win today would see Newport keep the pressure on the teams above them. The day was wild and windy for the 12.30 kick off. Newport won the toss and elected to play against the breeze in the first half. Continue reading

NTSFL, U12 Girls Cup 2015, Borrisokane 3 – 2 Newport Town AFC (Molly Hussey, Skye Sheehy)

NTSFL U12  GIRLS CUP 2015

Borrisokane 3 – 2 Newport Town AFC

NTAFC Todays Crest
Newport Town AFC headed to Borrisokane this morning to play in the quarter final of the NTSFL U12 cup. Newport Town knew that the task facing them was a daunting one. Borrisokane had won the league the previous week and had already beaten Newport Town twice this season. This was going to be a goliath of a task for the Town but the girls were adamant about not going down without a fight. This was cup football and anything was possible. Were we going to do a Wigan on Man City?? Continue reading

NTAFC U7s Blitz – 28 Mar 2015

Saturday, March 28th (Athlunkard)

Game 1: Corbally United 1 4 – 2 Newport Town AFC 1

Game 2: Newport Town AFC 1 1 – 1 Caherdavin Celtic

Game 3: Newport Town AFC 1 5 – 2 Lisnagry

The U7s Newport Nippers had an enjoyable morning on Saturday while taking part in the U7s Blitz in Athlunkard. It was a case of nervous nippers in the first game that saw us get off to a slow start, we showed great improvement with a comeback in the second half against Corbally United and were unlucky to lose out 4-2.
