Junior B, Div 2B, Aisling Annacotty 1-1 Newport Town AFC

Sunday, February 3 2019 (Annacotty)

Scorer: Nathan Hartigan

The B teams faintest hopes of promotion were more or less extinguished on Sunday afternoon when they could only manage a 1-1 draw away to Aisling Annacotty. Newport took the lead in the very first minute when Nathan Hartigan fired home from 30 yards out. Newport rode their luck for the remainder of the game and it looked like we would take all 3 points on offer, however Aisling spoiled the party when they equalised as the clock headed towards 90 minutes.

Junior B, Div 2B, Newport Town AFC 0-1 Parkville

Sunday, January 20 2019 (Derryleigh Park)

The B team went into their game against Parkville knowing that a win was essential to keep alive their slim hopes of promotion. It was a very tight contest between two evenly-matched sides and unfortunately it was the visitors who took all three points on offer after scoring a late winner courtesy of an excellent strike. With just 4 league games remaining, promotion is now looking slightly out of reach and the lads will be hoping for a good cup run.

Junior B, Div 2B, Holycross 2-1 Newport Town AFC

Sunday, December 9 2018 (Holycross)

Scorer: Tristan O’Sullivan

The Bs suffered a disappointing away defeat when they lost 2-1 away to Holycross. Before the game Newport were in third and Holycross were in fourth but this result sees the sides swap places. Tristan O’Sullivan scored from the spot for Newport.

Junior B, Div 2B, Newport Town AFC 2-5 Mungret Regional

Sunday, September 30 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorer: Nathan Hartigan 2

The Sunday morning fixture in Derryleigh saw the Bs play Mungret Regional. The B team were in third place just one point off the leaders before the game and Mungret were just 1 point behind in 4th place so a tight game was expected. Unfortunately, Newport lost the game on a 5-2 scoreline and did not play as well as they can and conceded some poor goals. Once again, it was a youthful Newport side, with three U18 players in the squad. Mungret opened a 2 goal lead early in the first half but Newport fought back through 2 goals from in-form Nathan Hartigan, the first of which was a brilliant volley and the second a penalty after Colin Coleman was brought down. At this stage, Newport were back in the game and Tristan O’Sullivan was unlucky to see his free-kick crash off the cross-bar. However after that, it was Mungret Regional who scored three goals without reply and took all three points on offer. Newport now lie in fourth place after 7 games. Next up for the B team is a visit to Bateman Park to play Ballynanty in the league next Sunday at 2pm.

Junior B, Div 2B, Newport Town AFC 4-3 Aisling Annacotty C

Tuesday, September 4 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Aaron O’Neill (2), John Ryan & Paul McEvoy

Despite being down 3-0 at half-time, the B team staged an incredible second-half comeback to score 4 unanswered goals and take all 3 points on offer, leaving Aisling shell-shocked and wondering what had happened in the second 45 minutes. Well done lads.
