U18, Div 2, Aisling Annacotty B 1 – 8 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, August 19 2017 (Killonan)

Scorers: James Rochford 2, Troy Porter 2, Adam Hurley, Colin Coleman, Devlin Courtney & Darragh Hanley)

The Youths made the short trip to Aisling Annacotty B for their second league fixture of the season. Newport set the pace early and were a goal to the good after 5 minutes, James Rochford latching onto a through ball. Devlin Courtney was next to get in on the action (30 min) connecting with a cross from the left. Four minutes later Adam Hurley reacted quickest in the box to tap home. James Rochford (38 min) was back at it again lobbing the keeper from a tight angle. Troy Porter was next to score (41min) rifling a shot past the keeper. Newport took their foot off the gas at the start of the second half, which allowed Aisling to pull one back, which was as good as it got for the hosts as Newport increased the pressure once again. James Rochford being denied his hat-trick by the crossbar first and then the post! Troy got his second of the night racing onto a long ball in over the defence. Substitutes Colin Coleman and new signing Darragh Hanley both scored late on to round off a great team performance. Next game Tuesday 22nd in Derryleigh v Regional B.

U18, Div 2, Newport Town AFC 2 – 2 Kilmallock

Tuesday, August 16 2017 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorer: Elliott Slattery (2)

The Youth team kicked off their league campaign on Tuesday evening with a tricky home game against a big, physical Kilmallock side. After a slow start the lads began to find their rhythm and were rewarded with a penalty on 20mins after Devlin Courtney was brought down in the area. The penalty was coolly dispatched by Elliott Slattery. Two quick goals just before half time saw the lads go in at the break 2-1 down. Newport started the second half at a blistering pace and was awarded a second penalty on 59 minutes after new signing Denis O’Donoghue was taken down in the box. Once again Elliott stepped up and slotted low into the corner. Newport pressed hard for the winner, but unfortunately were unable to get the elusive third. Next game this Saturday v Aisling Annacotty B.
