Junior A Squad are calling for your support in the final games of the Div 1B Promotion challenge

The Junior A side have three scheduled league games remaining and all are at home – to Hill Celtic, Kilfrush & Regional Utd. Just two of out Newport, Hill Celtic & Kilfrush will be promoted to Div 1A and the promotion race is very, very tight with all 3 sides still in with a shout of either winning the league or not even being promoted. First up for Newport is the visit of Hill Celtic to Derryleigh Park this coming Thursday at 6.30pm. On Sunday morning, Hill Celtic travelled out to Kilfrush and beat the current league leaders 4-0, so the city side will be full of confidence and know that if they can stop Newport winning the game, they will put a dent in our promotion challenge. Newport beat Hill Celtic in the earlier league game but lost to them in the quarter-final of the Lawson Cup, so there’s very little between the sides. However, Newport are on a good run of league form, having won their last 5 league games on the bounce and in the process, scoring 27 and only conceding 2. We’ve also won our three divisional cup games along the way, so momentum is being built at the right time of the season.

Then on Sunday morning at 10.30am, we welcome Kilfrush to Derryleigh Park in another huge league fixture. These are possibly two of the biggest games for the club in a long time and we hope to see big Newport crowds at the remaining home games to get right behind the lads. Their efforts in all competitions this season are fully deserving of your support and we are calling on the whole community to come along and give the lads lots of encouragement from the sidelines. Please spread the word.

U18 Div 2, Newport Town AFC 8-1 Regional Utd B

Sunday, April 28 2019 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Jack O’Carroll 3, Colin Coleman 2, Darren Collins, Jay Ryan & Killian O’Malley

Newport played the same opposition midweek cup opposition, Regional Utd, in the league in Derryleigh Park on Sunday afternoon and were comfortable 8-1 winners thanks to a hat-trick from Jack O’Carroll, a double from Colin Coleman and goals from Darren Collins, Killian O’Malley & Jay Ryan.Unfortunately the win was not enough in Newport’s quest for league honours as Cals late, late victory away to Caherdavin was enough to secure them the league title. Newport will finish the season as runners-up, which is a decent league campaign. However the lads are still hoping to make it to a Cup Final in Jackman Park for the second year running but in their way is Caherdavin, who they play in the semi-final next Saturday in Greenhills at 6.30pm. This will be a tough game as in the two games played so far this season between the sides, it’s one win apiece, so it could take extra-time and even penalties to separate the sides. If Newport do make it to the final, it will be played in Jackman Park on Thursday, May 9 against the winners of Shelbourne & Cals.

Match Squad: Josh White, Chris Carmody, Jack Noble, Killian O’Malley, John Ryan Rose, Devon Ryan, Ciaran Flynn, Brendan McMahon, Darren Collins, Jack O’Carroll, Colin Coleman, Haytam Kamil, Jack O’Sullivan, Jack Ryan & Jay Ryan
