U11 Blues, Newport Town AFC v Carew Park (non-competitive)

U11 Blues v Carew Park April 5 2017
Wednesday, April 5 2017 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport U11 Blue Team hosted Carew Park on Wednesday evening in Derryleigh Park in what was a cracking game. Newport started brightly with Ciaran Carey dominating midfield. All the team was working hard with Dylan Jones and Aaron Joyce constantly making great runs and putting the Carew Park defence under pressure. This paid off in the 10th minute when Conor Molamphy finished to the net. Newport continued to press and were rewarded shortly after when Aaron Joyce scored a great goal from a brilliant through ball delivered by Ciaran Carey. At the other end Damien O’Brien and James Delahunty were dominant and Conor Molamphy was putting in his usual strong performance in midfield. Just before half time Luke Kennedy put in 2 great corners with Martin McCabe finishing to the net from the second corner with a confident finish. Continue reading

U11 Blues, Newport Town AFC v Aisling Annacotty (non-competitive)

U11 Blues v AislingFeb 11 2017
Saturday, February 11 2017 (Derryleigh Park)

On Saturday morning Newport U11 Blue team hosted Aisling Annacotty in a sunny but cold Derryleigh Park in what was a game of two half’s. Newport started slow and Aisling controlled the first 10 minutes of the game. Newport started to get more into the half with Conor Molumphy bringing a great save from the opposition goalkeeper. Cillian Collins in the Newport goals made a number of very good saves before Annacotty hit the back of the net twice in a short period of time. Ciaran Carey then made a great run but was again denied by their goalkeeper. Newport were now getting more of the ball with David O’Brien and Nathan Kepple doing well in Midfield. Continue reading

U11 Blues, Newport Town AFC v Parkville (non-competitive)

U11 Blues v Parkville Jan 14 2017

Saturday, January 14 2017 (Derryleigh Park)

On Saturday morning last Newport’s U11 Blue team hosted Parkville at Derryleigh in a very competitive game. Newport started slowly and it took a few minutes for the team to get going but when they did they played the best football we have seen them play so far this season. After 8 minutes Nathan Kepple who had his best game so far for Newport won a free which Ciaran Carey buried in the back of the net. That was followed by a great move which was finished by Conor Molumphy with style. Parkville put us under pressure but Damien O’Brien and James Delahunty as always starred in defence. Senan Ryan pulled off a very good save before Parkville scored on the stroke of halftime. The second half began with Newport starting brightly with Dylan Jones joining the attack and nearly scoring from a cross. Luke Kennedy, who had a strong game in central midfield, was unlucky not to score shortly after as the Parkville goalie pulled off a string of great saves. Continue reading

U11 Greens, Newport Town AFC v Granville Rangers (non-competitive)

U11 Greens v Granville Jan 14 2017
Saturday, January 14 2017 (Derryleigh Park)

It was the first game of the year for the U11 greens and Newport were home to Granville Rangers. It was a perfect morning for soccer and this was reflected by the great turnout of players.

It was clear to see from the off that Granville were a very strong side, however Newport got off to a great start with great pieces of play from David Whelton, Darragh Meaney and Evan Moran putting the Granville midfield under pressure and with four minutes on the clock a well timed pass to Adam Power saw Newport a goal up. U11 Blues, Mungret Regional v Newport Town AFC Blues (non-competitive)

U11 Blues v Mungret Dec 3 2016
Saturday, December 3 2016 (Mungret)

Newport U11 Blue team were in action away against Mungret on Saturday. In a competitive and composed performance, Newport had one of their best displays of the season so far.

From the start Newport looked busy with our midfielder Alex O’Neill moving the ball quickly up to our centre forward Dylan Jones who shot narrowly wide early on. James Delahunty was his usual composed self at the left side of defence and everything was going well until Mungret hit us on a counter attack and scored a great goal after 8 minutes.

Newport drove on from here and quickly replied from a Conor Molumphy goal after being sent through by a smart Ciaran Carey pass. Shortly after that David O’Brien scored a great goal after again good work by our midfielders. Newport weren’t finished with the first half and the impressive Dara McGrath buried a cracker of a goal from 20 yards leaving the impressive Mungret goalie with no chance. Mungret upped their game in the second half and strong defending from Conor Sweeney and a smart save from Martin McCabe kept the Newport goals intact. Both Conor Molumphy and Ciaran Carey went close again for Newport before Conor scored again in the 21 minute. This was followed 2 minutes later with a great team goal which was clinically finished by the hard working Cillian Collins.

Newport Squad: Alex O Neill (Capt), Conor Molumphy, Martin McCabe, David O’Brien, Ciaran Carey, Dylan Jones, James Delahunty, Cillian Collins, Conor Sweeney & Dara McGrath

U11 Blues, Janesboro v Newport Town AFC Blues (non-competitive)

Saturday, November 5 2016 (Pearse Stadium)

An 11 goal thriller was to be seen in Pearse Stadium in Janesboro. The first half saw some good offensive play from both teams and also some excellent goalkeeping from both goalkeepers. Early in the first half, Senan Ryan was forced to make some brilliant saves from promising Janesboro attacks. Despite consecutive saves from Senan, Janesboro hit the post which led to the first goal of the match. This goal gave Janesboro the upper hand as they kept applying pressure to the Newport defenders. However, Newport tried to regain a hold on the game with a long range effort from Ciaran Carey which went narrowly wide. Against the run of play and despite excellent defending by Alex o Neill, Janesboro got a second goal. The tide turned as Newport began putting pressure on Janesboro. Long shots by Conor Molamphy and great hassling by the Newport strikers created a goal from a long range effort by David O Brien. Aaron Joyce was exceptional that day by breaking up the Janesboro attack which eased the pressure on our defenders. The pressure became too much for Newport as Janesboro ran through and scored another goal. Approaching half time Janesboro were awarded a penalty. Even though Senan Ryan made an amazing save, the luck was with the Janesboro striker as the ball bounced in front of him and he passed the ball into the Newport net.

U11 Greens, Caherconlish v Newport Town AFC Greens (non-competitive)

U11 Greens v Caherconlish Nov 5 2016
On a bright and fresh Saturday morning the Newport U-11 green team travelled to take on Caherconlish.

Newport kicked off with a strong wind behind them and attacked from the off but a strong Caherconlish defence and a very good goalkeeper kept the Newport attacks at bay for a long period of the first half, eventually though a goal was scored when Adam Power picked the ball up out wide and ran in on goal finishing with a shot from an almost impossible acute angle.

Caherconlish were never out of it and our defenders during the half Evan Keogh, Stephen Ryan, Owen Grant and James Anderson were kept busy dealing with wave after wave of counter attacks. Anything that got past the defence our dependable goalkeeper Darragh Gavin was on hand to deal with including spectacularly tipping over a shot that was heading into the top left hand corner of his goal.

Eventually Newport got a second when Evan Moran picked the ball up at the edge of the box and fired in an unstoppable shot.

The second half was always going to be a hard fought affair as Newport took on the strong Caherconlish team against the wind but the team worked extremely hard to keep their opponents at bay and a lot of credit must go to the hard work and running our midfielders of Conor O’Brien, Darragh Meaney, David Whelton, Evan Keogh and Evan Moran put in to help the defence out while still supporting our lone forward Adam Power in attack. Adam again had an excellent game and looked a real threat every time he got the ball. Newport completed the scoring late on in the game when David Whelton popped up to shoot home from outside the box.

Squad on the day: Evan Keogh (captain) Evan Moran, Darragh Gavin, Darragh Meaney, Conor O’Brien, Owen Grant, James Anderson, David Whelton, Stephen Ryan and Adam Power
