Newport scorers: Lee Ryan & Stephen Madden
Newport welcomed Shelbourne FC in the last league game of the season. After the sunshine of the last few weeks, it felt like it was the middle of winter in Derryleigh Park with the wind, rain and hail stones. Newport were in 2nd place and had an outside chance of winning the league. However they were depending on other results to help them out. Continue reading
Our under 12’s wrapped up their league campaign with a victory over Mungret Regional to secure a 100% record, winning 14 out of 14 games. Unfortunately, there was no representative from the LDSL present at the game to present the lads with their trophy & medals. These will be presented at a later date.
Well done lads. To win a league is special but to have a 100% record is simply incredible. Thank you to all the families, supporters & committee members who attended the final league game to celebrate with the team.

Newport scorers: Johnny Ryan 3, Diarmuid O’Riordan 2, Eoin McLoughlin, Nathan O’Donoghue & Ethan O’Flaherty
Newport Town travelled to Mungret to play out the last game in what has been an unforgettable season for these young players. The league title had already been won one week previous following a 4-0 win over Shelbourne in the penultimate game. Played in front of a massive travelling support, Town were hoping to maintain their 100% record in the league and were quick off the mark with Johnny Ryan and Diarmuid O’Riordan scoring two sublime goals from distance inside the first ten minutes. Five minutes later Johnny Ryan doubled his tally for the day, a quick Town counter attack left Mungret exposed at the back and Ryan made no mistake. Eoin McLoughlin then got in on the act netting his 11th goal of the season, with a WHAM shot (as he described it himself!) from the left wing that looped in over the Mungret keeper. Continue reading

With the game between Corbally & Newport finely balanced at 2-2, the referee had no option but to blow up the game fifteen minutes early due to fading light. Unfortunately the game kicked off 45 minutes late as the game beforehand went to extra time and penalties. Fixture to be re-scheduled.
Scorers: Oisin Kennedy & Johnny Ryan.

LDSL, U12 Div 2, 2014/15 League Champions
The title decider was played out in front of a large crowd at Shelbourne Park on Saturday morning, both sides knew the permutations, if Town got a point or better they would be champions, if Shelbourne won they would ultimately force a play-off for the title. The opening exchanges were tense with Shelbourne aided by a strong breeze putting the Town rear-guard under severe pressure and could have easily scored if it wasn’t for Brendan Quinn who had an outstanding game in goals. At a sun-drenched Athlunkard, Town U.12’s continued their invincibility with a comfortable victory over Corbally United ‘C’ on Saturday afternoon.
First half goals Johnny Ryan, Eoin McLoughlin, Cillian O’Sullivan, Steven Ryan, Diarmuid O’Riordan and Ben O’Sullivan put the game to bed early.
Massive credit is due to Corbally United who never gave up throughout the game especially their goalkeeper who made numerous excellent saves especially in the second half. Continue reading
Saturday, March 7
Both teams came into this game with a 100% record after 10 games so a very tight encounter was expected. Town as always were lightning out of the blocks and had a three goal lead after just ten minutes, the first goal was always going to be important in this game, Eoin McLoughlin squared a pass to Johnny Ryan who beat the keeper from ten yards out. The second goal was a stunning individual goal not for the finish but the individual brilliance from tied man of the match Diarmuid O’Riordan, beating three players with an unbelievable dribble before slotting home.
The third came just three minutes later, after a short Shelbourne kick out Town pressed them high up the pitch winning the ball back before Diarmuid O’Riordan unleashed an unstoppable shot that left the Shels keeper with no chance. Continue reading

With this game just one minute old Town had the lead after neat build up play on the edge of the United box, Calum Grant’s half-bicycle kick fell from the keepers hands and trickled in, two minutes later Grant doubled his tally composing himself before the keeper to slot the ball home after a great cross from Eoin McLoughlin. After just twelve minutes Grant had his hat trick and his 9th goal of the season, Town were putting United under severe pressure in the opening exchanges with the Corbally team camped in their own half.
Johnny Ryan was mad to get in on the act and lobbed the keeper beautifully after a quick Town break for his 26th goal of the season. One of the best individual goals of the season came minutes before the break with Sean McNamara beating a number of United defenders in their own box before finishing low to the bottom left corner. Diarmuid O’Riordan had his 13th of the season just on the stroke of half time beating the keeper with a very well placed shot. 6-0 Half Time. Continue reading

Hoping to maintain their 100% start to the season this morning the U.12’s hosted a Corbally United side that in the past have always been very difficult to beat. Both sides settled into the game quickly with chances falling at both ends. It took 13 minutes for Town to finally break down the United rearguard, Eoin McLoughlin with a deep cross from the left wing landed at the back post where Diarmuid O’Riordan knocked home for his 11th of the season.
Four minutes later Corbally equalized hitting Newport with a strong counter-attack. Just one minute later Town were back in front, after good shielding from Diarmuid O’Riordan, the ball found its way to Ben O’Sullivan who rifled a shot to the roof of the net. Corbally equalized just before half time to leave the game right in the balance going into the second half. Continue reading
