LDSL U12, Div 2, Newport Town AFC 10 – 1 Shelbourne AFC (Johnny Ryan (3), Diarmuid O’Riordan (3), Eoin McLoughlin(2), Nathan O’Donoghue & Calum Grant)

Saturday, March 7

Both teams came into this game with a 100% record after 10 games so a very tight encounter was expected. Town as always were lightning out of the blocks and had a three goal lead after just ten minutes, the first goal was always going to be important in this game, Eoin McLoughlin squared a pass to Johnny Ryan who beat the keeper from ten yards out. The second goal was a stunning individual goal not for the finish but the individual brilliance from tied man of the match Diarmuid O’Riordan, beating three players with an unbelievable dribble before slotting home.

The third came just three minutes later, after a short Shelbourne kick out Town pressed them high up the pitch winning the ball back before Diarmuid O’Riordan unleashed an unstoppable shot that left the Shels keeper with no chance. Continue reading

LDSL, U12 Boys, Div 2, Corbally Utd ‘B’ 0 – 9 Newport Town AFC (Calum Grant 3, Johnny Ryan 2, Sean McNamara, Diarmuid O’Riordan, Cian Kennedy & Cillian O’Sullivan)

Saturday, February 21 (Athlunkard)

With this game just one minute old Town had the lead after neat build up play on the edge of the United box, Calum Grant’s half-bicycle kick fell from the keepers hands and trickled in, two minutes later Grant doubled his tally composing himself before the keeper to slot the ball home after a great cross from Eoin McLoughlin. After just twelve minutes Grant had his hat trick and his 9th goal of the season, Town were putting United under severe pressure in the opening exchanges with the Corbally team camped in their own half.

Johnny Ryan was mad to get in on the act and lobbed the keeper beautifully after a quick Town break for his 26th goal of the season. One of the best individual goals of the season came minutes before the break with Sean McNamara beating a number of United defenders in their own box before finishing low to the bottom left corner. Diarmuid O’Riordan had his 13th of the season just on the stroke of half time beating the keeper with a very well placed shot. 6-0 Half Time. Continue reading

LDSL, U12, Div 2, Newport Town AFC 8 v 2 Corbally United ‘C’ (Ben O’Sullivan (2), Johnny Ryan (2), Diarmuid O’Riordan (2) & Oisin Kennedy (2))

Saturday, February 7 (Derryleigh Park)

Hoping to maintain their 100% start to the season this morning the U.12’s hosted a Corbally United side that in the past have always been very difficult to beat. Both sides settled into the game quickly with chances falling at both ends. It took 13 minutes for Town to finally break down the United rearguard, Eoin McLoughlin with a deep cross from the left wing landed at the back post where Diarmuid O’Riordan knocked home for his 11th of the season.

Four minutes later Corbally equalized hitting Newport with a strong counter-attack. Just one minute later Town were back in front, after good shielding from Diarmuid O’Riordan, the ball found its way to Ben O’Sullivan who rifled a shot to the roof of the net. Corbally equalized just before half time to leave the game right in the balance going into the second half. Continue reading

U12 v Regional Utd - Jan 24 2015
Hoping to maintain their 100% start to the season Town U.12’s faced a tricky away tie this morning away to Regional United, Town settled into the game slowly, the Regional rear-guard holding them at bay. It took seventeen minutes for Town to have their first real attempt on target and it proved successful, Johnny Ryan beating the keeper from distance.

Seven minutes later Town doubled their lead, playing it out from the back and working it up through the pitch Calum Grant and Johnny Ryan played a great one-two on the edge of the United box, Johnny Ryan was on hand to convert and get his second of the day. 2-0 at half-time. Continue reading

U12 Boys, Newport Town AFC 9-0 Coonagh United (Diarmuid O’Riordan (3), Johnny Ryan (2), Cillian O’Sulivan, Calum Grant, Eoin McLoughlin & Brendan Quinn)

A good start to 2015 for the Town U12 squad, with a comfortable win over league table toppers Coonagh United on Saturday. A freezing cold morning greeted the players as they arrived at Derryleigh Park. Coonagh who had played two more games than Newport were one point ahead of the home team and both teams were set up for an exciting table topping encounter.

Town have always started quick in their games this season and today was no different, after just six minutes, an Eoin McLoughlin cross was slotted home by Cillian O’Sullivan at the bachk post. Just five minutes later the lead was doubled, very similar to the first, a cross field ball from McLoughlin was controlled brilliantly by Diarmuid O’Riordan who scored his eight goal of the season. He quickly doubled his tally for the day taking the ball from just inside the Coonagh half on the wing, cutting in towards goal before firing a ferocious shot that the Coonagh netminder could do nothing about, a simply fantastic individual goal. Before half time O’Riordan had his hat-trick, pouncing on poor Coonagh defensive play he again broke with the ball and coolly rolled the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. U12, Div 2, Aisling Annacotty 2 – 4 Newport Town AFC (Johnny Ryan (3) & Sean McNamara)

Town maintained their 100% start to the new league campaign following a hard-fought victory over our neighbours Aisling Annacotty at Kilonan. Quick out of the blocks Johnny Ryan opened the scoring, a neat through ball from Calum Grant was converted by Ryan for his 15th goal of the season. After that goal both teams really settled into the game, Newport were playing some really good football but just couldn’t break the Annacotty defence down and if they did failed to find the target. 1-0 Half-Time.
