U13 Div 1, Newport Town AFC 4 – 3 Summerville Rovers

Saturday, November 7 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport scorers: Nathan O’Donoghue, Johnny Ryan, Eoin McLoughlin & Diarmuid O’Riordan

Newport welcomed Summerville FC on a dry but blustery Saturday morning in Derryleigh.

The first 10 mins of this match was very even with both sides playing good creative football.

Summerville were to break the deadlock after 12mins when they scored from an uncleared corner. However Newport responded almost immediately with a very well created and taken goal by Nathan O’Donoghue. With the game at one-all it remained a tight battle. As the second half moved on, Newport began to gain the upper hand and reduce the attacking threat of Summerville – great credit to both Oisin Braddock and Oisin Kennedy who acquitted themselves excellently in their new defensive roles and made many important blocks and clearances for the team to ensure the score remained level at 1 – 1 at the break. They were well aided in their defensive duties by the ever reliable Ben O’Sullivan and Darren Coffey Continue reading

Our under 13B’s faced a tricky trip to the U.L. Astro Turf to take on Regional Utd B’s. However the lads played very well and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. Lee Ryan continued his fine recent form with another 2 goals, with Shane O’Halloran scoring the third.

U13, Div 1, Newport Town AFC ‘A’ 3 – 2 Aisling Annacotty

Saturday, October 10 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport scorer: Johnny Ryan (3)

Newport went into their third game of the new season hoping to continue their winning ways from the first 2 matches. This was never going to be an easy task against near neighbours Aisling Annacotty who have always provided strong opposition .

Newport started strongly and were on top for the first 10 mins and nearly went ahead when Eoin McLoughlin hit a great shot at goal only to be denied by the post with the goalie beaten.

Soon after this Newport were rewarded for their pressure when Johnny Ryan scored into the bottom right hand corner and within a few mins Ryan had a second with a tidy finish after a good through ball from his fellow striker, Diarmuid O’Riordan. Continue reading

Saturday, September 26 (Scanlan Park)

Newport scorers: Johnny Ryan 3, Eoin McLoughlin 3, Ben O’Sullivan 2, Calum Grant, Daniel Egan & Darren Coffey

On a pleasant Sat morning in Scanlon Park our Newport U 13 A team took to the field in their second game of the season against Lisnagry. On what was a tight and soft pitch it didn’t take Newport too long to begin to find the form that gave them 3 points last week.

During the first 10 mins Newport, who had 2/3 positional changes from last week, began to settle in to their passing style of football and had a few early chances which went close. Continue reading

This group of players had an unbeaten season last year and began this match determined to keep that run of form going. Continue reading

U13, Div 2, Newport Town AFC 9 – 0 Mungret Regional ‘C’

Saturday, September 5 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport scorers: Lee Ryan (4), Thomas Hickey (2),Ethan Flaherty (2) & Luke Ryan Rose

Newport U13Bs played their second game of the season with a visit from Mungret Regional U13C to Derryleigh Park on a perfect Saturday morning for a match.

What a difference a few days makes. Having played very well in the previous game but losing on the score sheet, the Newport lads hit the ground running from the kick-off and had the opposition under pressure from the beginning to the end. Newport bombarded Mungret with wave after wave of attacks and the passing, movement and awareness from these young lads was a joy to watch. Newport scored 9 well worked goals and grew with confidence as the game went on.

An excellent performance all round and a lot more to come from this team for the remainder of the season.

Squad: Killian Sexton, Cian Kennedy, Jack Mullaney, Shaun Bonfield, Shane O’Halloran, Luke Ryan Rose, Thomas Hickey, Ethan Flaherty, Steve McCormack, Lee Ryan & Ben Noble

U13, Div 2, Aisling Annacotty ‘C’ 5 – 1 Newport Town AFC ‘B’

Wednesday, September 2 (Killonan)

Newport Scorer: Thomas Hickey

Newport U13B’s kicked off their season with a tricky away game to our local rivals Aisling Annacotty. Although the score line suggests a one sided match the end result was not a fair reflection on the game as a whole.

Newport had a number of good chances during the game to stay level with their opponents but the rub of the green was just not with them on the night. Strong performances were delivered across the team and the goal of the game was a screamer from the boot of U12 player Thomas Hickey.
Thanks to U13A team Manager Denis O’Sullivan for helping on the night and to the parents for their support.

Squad: Luke Ryan, Ben Noble, Shaun Bonfield, Sean McCarthy, Ethan Flaherty, Steve McCormack, Killian Sexton, Lee Ryan, Tom Hickey, Shane O’Halloran, Aaron Pearson, Steve Madden, Cian Kennedy
