U15 Premier, Janesboro 2-3 Newport Town AFC A

Tuesday, May 14 2018 (Carew Park)

Scorers: Eoin McLoughlin 2 & Jay Ryan

On a beautiful, warm summers evening Newport travelled in to the “Boro” for their last league game of the season. Newport had played Jansboro twice already and had lost by 1-0 in the league and just 2-1 in the Cup and knew that they were as good as Janseboro and that they could have got better results in each of the previous matches. So, there was huge determination from the Newport Lads to show that they were well capable of beating their near rivals.

What followed was as good a game of soccer as you would see at Schoolboys level between two very evenly matched teams.

Newport started full of intent and running and took control of proceedings early on – they had a couple of chances just cleared by the Janseboro defence before the deadlock was broken with a super Eoin McLoughlin strike off his supposedly weaker right foot! Newport were 1-0 and flying. They remained on top for the rest of the half and Janesboro never really looked like grabbing an equaliser as the half progressed. Continue reading

U15 Premier, Newport Town AFC A 6-2 Fairview Rangers A

Monday, May 7 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Jay Ryan 2, Diarmuid O’Riordan 2, Eoin McLoughlin & Darren Coffey

Newport welcomed 2nd placed Fairview Rangers to Derryleigh and again the Boys were trying to drag themselves further up the league table. Both teams were down numbers on the night with Newport ending up with a numerical advantage over the visitors but there were league points to be fought for, so nothing could be taken for granted.

Newport started strongly and went ahead early through a tidy Eoin McLoughlin strike, but the lead was short lived as Fairview levelled matters soon after. However, the Newport boys were on Top and slowly they began to transfer their dominance into goals.

Jay Ryan put Newport back in front before the break and then in the second half Diarmuid O’Riordan added a third with a header, to be followed with another headed goal from Centre Half Darren Coffey. Almost immediately Fairview scored to leave the match at a scoreline of 4-2 to the home team. You could see Fairview tiring and Newport were able to add to their lead with further strikes from Diarmuid O’Riordan and Jay Ryan. So, it finished a very decent 6-2 victory for the Newport Boys. This result now meant back to back league victories and the knowledge that a victory in the last league game would see Newport finish in a very strong 4th Place in the Premier division.

U15 Premier, Regional United 8-3 Newport Town AFC

Wednesday, May 2 2018 (Dooradoyle)

Scorers: Jay Ryan 6 & Daniel Egan 2

This was a lovely sunny evening and the game was played on the home team’s large Astro Pitch. Based on League positions this was a game that Newport were favourites to win and the hope was that 3 further points would be gained. Newport only had the bare 11 players on the night, but this had little impact to them as they totally dominated Regional from the Off. Newport launched wave after wave of attack and the goals began to flow after the 10 min period when Jay Ryan slotted to the net to Put Newport ahead. Jay would add an astonishing 4 more goals before the break and Dan Egan added another to leave Newport 6-0 up at the break. Regional did far better in the second half and managed to score 3 goals but the Newport Boys added 2 more of their own through Jay Ryan and Dan Egan to leave the final score as a very comfortable 8-3 victory for the Newport Boys- Job done!!

U15 Div 1 League Cup, Aisling Annacotty C 2-1 Newport Town AFC B

U15B v Aisling April 14 2018
Saturday, April 14 2018 (Kilonan)

Newport scorer: Lorcan Delaney

U15B boys were away to Aisling Annacotty Sat. Newport started well and things were looking good. We got our fair share of possession. Our back four were on form clearing up any football Ashling tried to play through. Newport kept pushing forward with new energy and deserved the first goal scored by Lorcan Delaney. Before the half Newport conceded a goal to leave it 1 : 1 at the break.

The second half started the same as the first but with Newport playing up hill and against the wind. They had no choice but to get stuck in and play their best. Long high balls tested the Newport back 4, who again were determined to limit Ashling’s shots on goal. Newport weren’t happy just to defend. They played well in all positions throughout the pitch, and forced Ashling to defend their 6 yard box on a couple of occasion’s. Luck was not on our side as Ashling loaded the Newport 18 yard box to squeeze in a second. Newport kept going but eventually ran out of time. This was an impressive performance, considering recent results. Lets just say Newport did not get the rub of the green, with the result not reflecting their match efforts. Well done today Lads.

U15 Premier, Caherdavin Celtic 2-6 Newport Town AFC A

Wednesday, April 11 2018 (Greenhills)

Scorers: Killian O’Sullivan 2, Jay Ryan, Johnny Ryan, Eoin McLoughlin & Daniel Egan

The Newport U15A boys travelled in to a soggy Cahardavin pitch to renew their premiership rivalry with the Caherdavin Boys . Since arriving in the Premier League Newport have had some very tough battles with this team and never more so that when meeting them on their own tight pitch on the Ennis Road . You are always going t to get a tough physical battle against Caherdavin but the hope was that the Newport boys could continue their upward performance trend and be able to produce a performance that would ensure the went home to Newport with some points . Thankfully we were not disappointed ……

Newport produced one of their best performances of the season and showed how important it was to be back playing football matches on a regular basis . From the off the Newport were up from this both physically and from a football perspective . They went 1 nil up with a goal from Cilian O Sullivan and the early goal drove the confidence within the team . Caherdavin did have a penalty which was missed and this allowed Newport to drive on and take full control of the game . The scored 2 more goals in the first half when Eoin mc Louglin and Jay Ryan scored to leave the half time score as 3 nil to the Newport boys – what a first half !! and the lads and management were rightly delighted with their efforts in the first 35 mins .
