LDSL, U15 Div 1, Newport Town AFC 4 – 1 Caherdavin Celtic

Friday, April 24 (Derryleigh Park)

Newport scorers: Jordan Mooney, Nathan Hartigan, Devlin Courtney & OG

Caherdavin were the visitors to Derryleigh Park on Friday Evening. This was a typical end-of-season game, with both teams struggling to get out of first gear. These sides had met less than a fortnight ago in the cup, where Newport enjoyed an emphatic victory and this time around, the home side enjoyed another comfortable victory, albeit on a closer 4-1 scoreline. LDSL, U15 Div 1 Cup, First Round, Newport Town AFC 8 – 1 Caherdavin Celtic

Under 15 Squad 2014-15

Under 15 Squad 2014-15

Monday, April 13 (Derryleigh Park)

The under 15’s bounced back from defeat in their last league game to record an emphatic 8-1 win over Caherdavin Celtic at home in the first round of the Div 1 Cup to ensure their safe passage to the quarter-final, where they will welcome Star Rovers to Derryleigh Park.

The top pitch in Derryleigh Park was in pristine condition and the surface allowed the lads play the type of football that they are well capable of playing and they dominated the game from start to finish. There were some positional changes to the starting eleven, with Nathan Hartigan moving up front alongside Colin Coleman, Brian Keane slotted in very well at left back and Jack Noble moved from full back, up to the left wing, where he enjoyed his best game of the season. LDSL, U15 Div 1, Newport Town AFC 3 – 8 Regional Utd. (Devlin Courtney 3)

Friday, April 10 (Derryleigh Park)

The under 15’s second last league game of the season ended in defeat to title chasing Regional Utd in Derryleigh Park. The score line was a bit harsh on the lads as they went into a 2-0 lead but a combination of some sloppy defending from set-pieces and a controversial penalty were to be their ultimate downfall.

Newport were 2-0 up after 14 minutes through well taken goals from Devlin Courtney. Unfortunately by the 25th minute the score was level at 2-2 and then two minutes later, Regional were awarded a penalty which they dispatched to take a 3-2 lead. On 32 minutes, Regional scored their fourth after Newport failed to contest a corner and the Regional player had a free header to score. Continue reading

LDSL, U15 Div 1, Shelbourne 0 – 9 Newport Town AFC (Colin Coleman 3, Nathan Hartigan 2, Evan Geraghty, Jordan Mooney, Calum Grant & Stephen Ryan)

Saturday, March 28 (Shelbourne Park)

Our under 15 side travelled to Shelbourne Park to take on Shelbourne FC. After going through a recent poor spell, this game was a great opportunity for the lads to gain some momentum for their remaining league games and hopefully a decent cup run. They certainly did it in style by recording a comfortable 9-0 victory over a plucky Shelbourne side. Continue reading

LDSL, U15 Div 1, Shannon Town 6 – 3 Newport Town AFC (Brian Keane 2, Elliott Slattery)

Saturday, March 14th (Corrib Drive, Shannon)

Our under 15’s made the long journey to Shannon on Saturday morning for only their 8th league game of the season. We have had seven games called off this season for one reason or another, so it was good to see some on field action again.

This was always going to be a tough game for the lads and was made even tougher, as unfortunately, we were missing a lot of players for various reasons and almost started the game minus a few others due to navigational issues. The club may have to do some fundraising for sat navs! Continue reading

LDL, U15, Div 1, Corbally Utd. A 7 – 0 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, January 31, Athlunkard

Under 15s v Corbally Utd A - Jan 31 2015
Unfortunately, our U15 team suffered a defeat away to fellow promotion hopefuls, Corbally Utd. (A) on Saturday morning in Athlunkard.

Missing a few of our regulars, it was a hard day at the office for the lads against a very big Corbally side, who were able to physically dominate our players.

It’s fair to say that Corbally are a very good side and played some excellent football but it was also one of those days where we just never got going and did not play as well as we usually can. Continue reading

U15, Div 1, Newport Town AFC 2 – 3 Coonagh Utd (Devlin Courtney & Nathan Hartigan)

Two teams with 100% records before the game and both pushing hard for league honours, locked horns at Derryleigh Park on Saturday morning, unfortunately Newport lost out on a 3-2 scoreline to Coonagh after a pulsating encounter.

Both teams were a little rusty after the extended Christmas break and it was nip & tuck from the start. Coonagh, with a very strong & physical team, began to turn the screw a little and went 1-0 up after a shot from the edge of the box gave Brendan Coffey, in goals, no chance to save. Newport then began to grow into the game and scored a deserved equaliser after Devlin Courtney, who had a good game up front, fired low and hard to the keeper’s right from the right hand side of the box. U15, Div 1, Newport Town AFC 6 – 4 Aisling Annacotty (Nathan Hartigan (3), Colin Coleman, Devlin Courtney & Jordan Mooney)

Our under 15’s made it 5 wins from 5 league games with a tense 6-4 victory over Aisling Annacotty at Derryleigh Park last Saturday morning. Given the time of year, the pitch was in excellent condition, which in the first half allowed the lads play their free flowing passing game, which has been worked hard on in training.

Despite controlling the game from the start, it was 20 minutes before Newport broke the deadlock after Odhran Brett, who had a fine game at centre half, won a strong challenge at the back and gave a lovely pass to Colin Coleman on the left wing, who made a strong run into the box before rifling his shot past the Aisling keeper.

5 minutes later Nathan Hartigan scored the first goal of his hat-trick with a long range effort which sailed over the keeper’s head. Nathan then made it 3-0 on 28 minutes after the hard working Mikey Ryan Lane slipped him a delightful pass into the penalty area. Continue reading
