The 2018/2019 season is almost upon us. We are are holding two registration evenings in our Derryleigh Park Clubhouse on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th August from 7pm to 8.30pm. We would appreciate if parents & players could please attend on one of these nights to register. This is a very busy time of the year for us in preparing for the new season and your co-operation would be greatly appreciated. Our annual end-of-season awards ceremony took place in a packed Community Centre last Friday and proved once again to be a very enjoyable evening. The size of the crowd and the number of players in attendance really shows that the club continues to get bigger and stronger every year. The club’s Chairperson, Ger Healy welcomed everyone before the Event M.C, Dave Noble gave a rundown of the achievements both on and off the field during the past season including league & cup honours, players selected for league representative teams, sold out Easter & Summer Camps, the growth in playing numbers and developments in Derryleigh Park. As we continue to grow year on year to cater for the youth in the local community, he had a special thanks for the coaches, assistant coaches etc who give endless hours of their time to our young players. The parents were also acknowledged for their continued support and co-operation.
All of our younger non-competitive players received a medal and certificate from the club, while the competitive players from the under 12’s right up to the under 16’s, were in contention for Most Improved Player and Player of the Year Awards. The U17s & U18s were up for Golden Boot and Player of the Year awards. The coaches deliberated long and hard over their selections and there were some very close calls. However the full list of award winners was as follows.

Membership of NTAFC for the coming 2018/2019 season is now open. Membership runs from August to July. As an amateur volunteer based football club, we’ve committed to meeting the repayments on the clubhouse loan in excess of €250,000, bringing the total investment to date of €1.2m in Derryleigh Park. We see this as an investment in our local youth, their future as well as being a valuable resource for our community. Everyone’s support and patronage of the club, helps make our vision a reality.
This coming season, we will have upwards on 400 players playing on over 30 teams from Nippers to the Junior A team. Running a club of this size is a very costly business both on and off the pitch and the membership fee is an integral part of our income.

All adults involved with children within our club in any capacity must complete the FAI/Garda vetting process. All Garda vetting applications for the Football Association of Ireland have been processed online from 5th September 2016.
For new Garda vetting applications, individuals should use the new Garda Vetting Invitation form and the Garda Vetting ID Validation form (see link below). To fully submit an application, they need to complete the form/s and give them along with identification documents to the club’s Child Welfare Officer (Micheal Lenihan), who will then forward to the FAI.
On receipt of a the Vetting Invitation Form, Garda ID Validation form and copies of their identification, the FAI will email the applicant an invitation to complete the remainder of the Garda vetting process online. Following this, the applicant will receive a tracking number which they can use to track the current status of their Garda vetting application.
If a Garda vetting applicant is aged 16 or 17, the above documentation must be accompanied by a Parental/Guardian Consent form (see link below). Failure to do so will deem the application invalid and it will not be processed.
A lunchtime kick off was the start time for the first game of the season for the Newport Town U11 girls away to Lough Derg in Clarisford.
Last year’s results at U10’s were mixed between the two teams and today’s match promised to have plenty of drama in it. The girl’s team had a few new signings this year in Rebecca Moylan, Megan Sheehy and Sarah Reddington once again guided under the stewardship of Tom Hickey and James McNamara this year.
This year’s format is a much larger pitch, 7 a side and 25 minutes a side.
Newport got off to flying start with Jane Ryan opening the scoring after 3 minutes. This was followed quickly by Abagail Hickey with a second goal. It took Lough Derg time to get into the game and put the pressure on, but the defence of Caoimhe Healy and Lauren Keogh stood up well. Newport had a lot of chances and Cliodha Lenihan was very unlucky not to bag a few goals in the first half. Last Wednesday, ten of our schoolgirl players had the honour of representing Newport Town AFC at the FAI Soccer Sisters Festival in the Aviva Stadium. Newport Town AFC was one of the 8 clubs selected to participate due to the fact that our recent Easter Soccer Sisters Camp was the largest and most successful in the country. The road to the Aviva in May is now a well-worn path for the girls as this is the third year running that NTAFC has been one of the select few clubs to qualify for the event. Continue reading
All the playing kits have been delivered. 80+ footballs have been pumped. The pitches are in perfect condition. The dressing rooms are ready. The FAI coaches are all set to go. The weather forecast isn’t too bad. Now we just await the arrival of 80+ excited girls on Wednesday morning.
Below are just a few pointers for the participants.
* The Camp runs from 10.00am to 2pm on Wednesday & Thursday.
* Girls may sign-in from 9.30am on Wednesday morning.
* All the girls should bring a healthy packed lunch with plenty of water.
* As the car park is going to be very busy, please co-operate with the stewards when dropping and collecting children in Derryleigh Park.
* The camp is almost fully booked, therefore we can’t guarantee a place for a child that arrives on Wednesday morning unless they have pre-booked online on www.soccersisters.ie
* Lastly, fun, football & friendship is guaranteed and we hope everyone enjoys the camp.
Just like going training or to a game, there are some essential items you need to bring with you;
* Your booking confirmation (first morning only)
* Full official FAI Soccer Sisters kit (you will get this at sign-in on the first day)
* Shin guards
* Football boots and runners
* Rain jacket (just in case)
* Sun screen (we are optimistic)
