NTSFL U12 GIRLS CUP 2015
Borrisokane 3 – 2 Newport Town AFC
Newport Town AFC headed to Borrisokane this morning to play in the quarter final of the NTSFL U12 cup. Newport Town knew that the task facing them was a daunting one. Borrisokane had won the league the previous week and had already beaten Newport Town twice this season. This was going to be a goliath of a task for the Town but the girls were adamant about not going down without a fight. This was cup football and anything was possible. Were we going to do a Wigan on Man City?? Continue reading
Saturday, March 14th (Brickfields, Nenagh)
Newport U12 girls had a tough task on Sat morning when we headed down to Nenagh to face the U12 league leaders. Newport started well and there was very little between the two teams for the first fifteen minutes when Nenagh scored the first goal from a long range shot. Two more goals quickly followed fro Nenagh and we were 3-0 down at half time.
Newport started the second half with determination and were unlucky not to have come away with at least one goal from the half with Mollie Hussey hitting the post from a free kick and Rachel Carey and Kaitlyn Bradshaw missing some chances. Nenagh managed to score two more in the second half while Newport were shoving on looking for a score. The 5-0 score line does not so justice to the Newport performance but we had one of those days in front of goals. Continue reading

Newport Town AFC U12 girls had a good win against Ballymackey in the North Tipperary Schoolgirls League today.
Newport had a lot of players missing but the girls who showed up gave all they had for an emphatic victory.
Aoife Kennedy had a great game in goals and made numerous saves when called upon. Our backline of Amelia Healy, Kate Harvey, and Sadbh Lenihan were solid and are improving the their ability to read the game as they get more experience.
Kaitlyn Bradshaw, Eryn Kennedy and Emma Moloney played well in midfield helping in defence when called upon and also giving support when we were attacking. Kaitlyn Bradshaw scored 2 goals from her attacking runs from midfield. Continue reading

On Saturday morning after the Limerick League called off the boys matches due to the weather, Newport Town AFC girls togged off to show the boys how to play regardless of the weather!!!
BT Harps from Templemore were the opposition and the last time these two sides met it was a close evenly matched encounter and Newport knew that it would be the same today.
Our usual keeper was unavailable so Mollie Hussey stepped up to fill the vacant spot and went on to give a girl of the match performance with some very brave saves. The defence of Sophie Richter, Amelia Healy, Kate Harvey, Sadbh Lenihan and Aisling O Gorman all played their part when called upon. The defence is improving in every match as the girls are learning to “read” the game better. A special mention for Aisling O Gorman who had to come off injured as she put her body on the line to stop BT Harps scoring a definite goal. Continue reading

Saturday, February 7 (Ballymackey)
Newport U12 girls made the long journey to Ballymackey on Sat to play Ballymackeys B squad in the North Tipperary Schoolgirls League. Newport was coming off of the back of two wins in a row and were improving in every game.
Upon arrival in Ballymackey there was confusion as to whether the game was supposed to be on or not? Ballymackey for some reason thought the game was off but Newport and the referee were there to play the match. Ballymackey arrived but had to play a lot of A team players so they conceded the points and we played a friendly.
Friendly or not the match was played with all the competitiveness of a cup final! Continue reading
