Newport Girls under 13 team travelled to Ballymackey to play Ballymackey B on Tuesday night. Conditions were perfect for an epic encounter and that is exactly what we got.
Newport showed great form in the first half. Rachel Carey, Amber Deegan, Skye Sheehy and Roisin Power played a positive attacking brand of football that would make any Premiership manager proud. It was a tightly contested half that resulted in a number of shots on target from Skye and Roisin. Defensively, Sarah Kelly and Kate Harvey were rock solid. The teams went into the half-time break 0-0.
The 2nd half brought in the super subs, Milla Harte, Leah Moran, Leona Burke, Mara van Aelst and Aisling O’Gorman. Another end to end half with very few opportunities to score. Leah Moran almost broke the deadlock with a great shot on target, which was met by an equally impressive save. The score remained level until the last minute of the game when Ballymackey finally broke through and scored what would be the only goal of the game. Newport’s goalkeeper Emma Moloney made an impressive 7 saves in what was an excellent performance against a very experienced Ballymackey side.
Squad: Emma Moloney, Kate Harvey, Sarah Kelly, Rachel Carey, Amber Deegan, Skye Sheehy, Roisin Power, Milla Harte, Leah Moran, Mara van Aelst, Aisling O’Gorman, Leona Burke.

Newport u13 girls travelled to Ballymackey to play the Ballymackey ‘A’ side on Saturday in the North Tipperary u13 schoolgirls’ league. In what can only be described as Arctic conditions, the girls braved the elements in a game where the score did not reflect the effort and quality of play put in by the Newport side.
Ballymackey went 2 – 0 ahead in the first half with 2 excellent goals including a 20m free kick into the top right hand corner.
Roisin Power with assistance from a strong defensive clearance from Newport beat the keeper to score a great goal bringing the score to 2-1. Newport rallied and despite a very strong attacking effort could not level the game. Continue reading

Newport Town AFC U13 girls travelled to Holycross on Saturday to play in the NTSFL blitz.
The girls played 3 games against some strong opposition. Despite this being their first run out for the year, we had an impressive pool of 12 players who togged out on Saturday. They played well and showed great character and sportsmanship on and off the field. A comment that one of the NTSFL organisers made was “Newport FC and in particular the girls have a great family feel about them, it’s great to see them doing well”. Continue reading
