U15 Girls, Ballymackey 0-2 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, January 5 2018 (Ballinree)

Scorers: Robyn McNamara & Neve Clements

The start of a new year and our 1st game after the Christmas break was away to Ballymackey. The ground was a bit heavy and so were the girls legs after a few weeks off. We had a couple of good chances but our shots were too close to the keeper. 0-0 at half time.

For the 2nd half we were struggling to get through their midfield so we made a few changes and they paid off. From a quick break, Leah crossed the ball and Robyn remained calm and slotted the ball past the keeper. Again Leah turned provider but this time Neve was the beneficiary and scored her first goal for the club. All round a good start to 2019. #greatbunchofgirls

U15 Girls, Killavilla 4-1 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, December 8 2018 (Villa Park)

Scorer: Abbie Lenihan

A game played in very windy conditions and decisions just did not go our way. From almost getting the opener, we then gave away a scrappy goal. In the 2nd half we equalised and the game was anyone’s for the taking but the referee awarded Killavilla a penalty when a Villa player fell in the box. With 10mins to go, the ref waved away a handball by a Villa player outside their penalty box and to rub salt into the wound, he then gave Villa a free kick outside our penalty box, even though no one knew why, and they scored from it. With heads now down, they scored with the last kick of the game.

Team: Emma Wright, Robyn McNamara, Mara Van Aelst, Jayne Hurley, Nadine Hartigan, Sarah Kelly, Abbie Lenihan, Leah Moran, Neve Clements, Aisling O’Gorman, Caragh Flynn, Chelsea King & Emily Hurley.

U15 Girls, Birdhill 1-4 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, November 24 2018 (Dublin Road)

Scorers: Caragh Flynn 2, Emily Hurley & Abbie Lenihan

Any game against our neighbours is always a tough fixture and this game was no different. In the first half, both defences were working hard but it was Newport’s star player, Abbie Lenihan who on a run into the penalty box was fouled and scored the resulting penalty. Birdhill then equalised from a corner just before the break. In the 2nd half the girls increased the tempo and it paid off with Caragh scoring twice, with 2 well taken shots. Our final goal came courtesy of Emily from a scramble in the box.

Team: Emma Wright, Eryn Kennedy, Mara Van Aelst, Jayne Hurley, Nadine Hartigan, Abi Rainsford, Mollie O’Hora, Leah Moran, Abbie Lenihan, Robyn McNamara, Caragh Flynn, Ciara Mackey, Neve Clements & Emily Hurley.

U15 Girls, Newport Town AFC 2-2 Knigh Utd

U15 Girls Squad v Knigh Utd

Saturday, November 10 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Sarah Kelly & Aoife Kennedy

Knigh were the visitors to Derryleigh today and they arrived with a strong contingent. We were very sluggish at the start of the game and Knigh took full advantage and scored the opener. When we finally got going, some great running by Emily who then crossed into the box from which Aoife pounced on the loose ball to bring us level.

In the 2nd half we played a bit more football and a strike from Sarah outside the box put us in the lead. We switched off again and allowed Knigh to be 2 against 1 in our box and they drew level. In fairness the girls tried their best to get a winner and when we thought Caragh had scored, it was ruled offside.

A shout out to Abi who played her first game for NTAFC today and our best wishes to Aoife whom we hope makes a full and quick recovery after her injury today.

U15 Girls, Newport Town AFC 4-1 Ballymackey

Saturday, October 13 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Caragh Flynn, Leah Moran & Chelsea King 2

Ballymackey always give us a good game and today was no different. From the start both defences were solid and it was going to take something special to open the scoring. Nadine, Sarah and Aisling worked very hard on the left side trying to get that breakthrough and were very unlucky not to. The goal finally came from the equally hard working right side of Eryn, Robyn and Neve, when Robyn crossed for Caragh whose initial shot was saved but she fought for the rebound and was rewarded with a goal. Emma pulled off a great save soon after and then Jayne and Mollie made sure nothing got through for the remainder of the half.

In the 2nd half we put on fresh legs and we started pressing higher up the pitch, leading to Leah scoring with a great strike from 25 metres. With some good play by Ciara who tried to put Chelsea through but was fouled and Chelsea scored from the resultant free kick. Aoife played Chelsea through from the halfway line and she went on to slot the ball passed the keeper. Emma was unlucky not to get a touch to a strike from a Ballymackey player which led to their goal. Overall, a great display from the girls #greatbunchofgirls

U15 Girls, Newport Town AFC 0-3 Killavilla

Saturday, September 29 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

We welcomed villa to Derryleigh on Saturday afternoon. We struggled to implement our game plan in the 1st half and a quick break by villa, with a hint of offside, put their forward through to shoot past our keeper. A free kick against us from outside our box led to a flick on and they scored their 2nd with a tap in at the back post.

The girls got their 2nd wind in the 2nd half but could not find a way past the villa keeper. Their 3rd came again from a counter attack as we pushed forward, when their forward broke from the half way line and her shot beat our keeper who was unlucky after getting a touch to it. Great credit to Emma in goals who dived bravely on a 50/50 ball and received a boot in the jaw for her troubles but got back up, dusted herself down and got on with the game #greatbunchofgirls

Team: Emma Wright, Nadine Hartigan, Mara Van Aelst, Jayne Hurley, Robyn McNamara, Aisling O’Gorman, Sarah Kelly, Ciara Mackey, Eryn Kennedy, Caragh Flynn, Leah Moran(c), Aoife Kennedy, Emily Hurley & Neve Ricketts.

U15 Girls, Newport Town AFC 5-0 Birdhill

Saturday, September 15 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Caragh Flynn (2), Eryn Kennedy (2) & Leah Moran

For our opening game of the season, we welcomed our close neighbours Birdhill to Derryleigh. With both teams looking for a good start to the season, it was Newport that succeeded. Sarah played a through ball to Eryn who took it in her stride and smashed it into the net. BH went looking for an equaliser but the back 4 of Mollie, Mara, Jayne & Nadine were in great form. BH best effort was a strong shot from outside the box but Aoife parried it well and pounced on the loose ball as it threatened to spin into her net. Right on the stroke of half time, Caragh spun on the edge of the box and put her shot beyond the reach of the keeper to score our 2nd.

In the 2nd half Ciara, Leah & Neve controlled the midfield which allowed both Caragh & Eryn to score again, giving us a 4-0 lead. Sarah & Aisling were unlucky not to score but a lovely strike by Leah on the half volley completed the scoring. Overall a very hard-working team performance.

Team: Aoife Kennedy, Mollie O’Hora, Mara Van Aelst, Jayne Hurley, Nadine Hartigan, Neve Ricketts, Sarah Kelly (Capt.), Eryn Kennedy, Leah Moran, Aisling O’Gorman, Ciara Mackey & Caragh Flynn.
