U15 Girls Shield Final, Newport Town AFC 7-0 Ballymackey

Thursday, May 9 2019 (Brickfields)

Scorers: Chelsea King 3, Abbie Lenihan 3 & Shauna Pearson

Our final game of the season took place in Nenagh and we started the game strongly. With Abbie, Leah & Sarah dominating the midfield it was difficult for Ballymackey to create anything to really bother the back line. When they did get a half chance, Ailín, Caragh, Ellie, Jayne & Mara were solid enough to tidy up. Changing wingers around really upset their back line so Aoife, Emily, Eryn, Nadine, Neve & Shauna had a lot of open field to run at them. Chelsea was her usual self, creating space and tormenting defenders. Leading 3-0 at half time through goals from Abbie, Chelsea & Shauna, it wasn’t long into the 2nd half and the girls were creating more chances. There was some lovely passing and moving by the girls and Ballymackey did not know how to stop them. Abbie & Chelsea completed a hat trick each to put a gloss on the scoreline but it was definitely the team working hard that created those chances. Right at the end of the game, Ballymackey broke through but Emma forever brave, dove at the players feet to snuff out that chance. Again we had a few injured and missing players Abi Rainsford, Aisling O’Gorman, Mollie O’Hora & Robyn McNamara. A season of ups & downs but finished stronger.

U15 Girls Shield Semi-Final, Newport Town AFC 3-1 Knigh Utd

Wednesday, May 1 2019 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Abbie Lenihan 2 & Chelsea King

With kick off delayed, the girls were slow to impose their game on Knigh. The back line were kept busy by knigh attacks but they held firm. The breakthrough came when Chelsea rounded the keeper and scored. Our 2nd was almost identical, with Abbie applying the finishing touch. 2-0 up at half time.

The rain came down as the 2nd half began and with it came a goal from Knigh. They put us under a lot of pressure and put the ball in the net again, but thankfully it was ruled offside. This seemed to spurn the girls on and after some excellent passing, starting from the backs and finished by Abbie, was the goal of the game. It finished 3-1 and the girls had to work hard to go onto the final.

We had a long injury list going into the game and we wish the girls a speedy recovery.

U15 Girls, Knigh Utd 1-6 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, March 2 2019 (Knigh)

Scorers: Robyn McNamara 2, Chelsea King, Aoife Kennedy, Abbie Lenihan & Caragh Flynn

The U15 girls recorded an excellent 6-1 win away to Knigh Utd with goals from Robyn McNamara 2, Chelsea King, Aoife Kennedy, Abbie Lenihan & Caragh Flynn. With a strong gale blowing and the rain pelting down, the girls were eager to play as their last game was 2 months ago. We had 18 girls to choose from and each one of them wanted to be out in that weather. We started very strong, when Robyn McNamara did a lovely pull back and shot past the keeper for the opener. After a great run by Chelsea King, Aoife Kennedy finished off for number 2. Again Robyn struck inside the box to get her 2nd. Knigh then got one back before Shauna Pearson set Chelsea free who finished the first half by scoring our 4th. In the 2nd half, Knigh pressed us back but a quick break from Leah Moran sent Abbie Lenihan free to score. With time nearly up, Sarah Kelly & Abi Rainsford did a quick one two and crossed into Caragh Flynn who made no mistake from close range. Well done to Ellie Kennedy & Ailín Rochford on their debuts for the club, and on a final note, every single girl put in a team performance during the game. We wish a speedy recovery to Aisling from her recent skiing injury.

Team: Emma Wright, Eryn Kennedy, Nadine Hartigan, Mara Van Aelst, Mollie O’Hora, Sarah Kelly, Shauna Pearson, Robyn McNamara, Chelsea King, Leah Moran (c), Aoife Kennedy, Abi Rainsford, Abbie Lenihan, Ailín Rochford, Ellie Kennedy, Caragh Flynn, Jane Hurley & Emily Hurley.

U15 Girls, Ballymackey 0-2 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, January 5 2018 (Ballinree)

Scorers: Robyn McNamara & Neve Clements

The start of a new year and our 1st game after the Christmas break was away to Ballymackey. The ground was a bit heavy and so were the girls legs after a few weeks off. We had a couple of good chances but our shots were too close to the keeper. 0-0 at half time.

For the 2nd half we were struggling to get through their midfield so we made a few changes and they paid off. From a quick break, Leah crossed the ball and Robyn remained calm and slotted the ball past the keeper. Again Leah turned provider but this time Neve was the beneficiary and scored her first goal for the club. All round a good start to 2019. #greatbunchofgirls

U15 Girls, Killavilla 4-1 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, December 8 2018 (Villa Park)

Scorer: Abbie Lenihan

A game played in very windy conditions and decisions just did not go our way. From almost getting the opener, we then gave away a scrappy goal. In the 2nd half we equalised and the game was anyone’s for the taking but the referee awarded Killavilla a penalty when a Villa player fell in the box. With 10mins to go, the ref waved away a handball by a Villa player outside their penalty box and to rub salt into the wound, he then gave Villa a free kick outside our penalty box, even though no one knew why, and they scored from it. With heads now down, they scored with the last kick of the game.

Team: Emma Wright, Robyn McNamara, Mara Van Aelst, Jayne Hurley, Nadine Hartigan, Sarah Kelly, Abbie Lenihan, Leah Moran, Neve Clements, Aisling O’Gorman, Caragh Flynn, Chelsea King & Emily Hurley.

U15 Girls, Birdhill 1-4 Newport Town AFC

Saturday, November 24 2018 (Dublin Road)

Scorers: Caragh Flynn 2, Emily Hurley & Abbie Lenihan

Any game against our neighbours is always a tough fixture and this game was no different. In the first half, both defences were working hard but it was Newport’s star player, Abbie Lenihan who on a run into the penalty box was fouled and scored the resulting penalty. Birdhill then equalised from a corner just before the break. In the 2nd half the girls increased the tempo and it paid off with Caragh scoring twice, with 2 well taken shots. Our final goal came courtesy of Emily from a scramble in the box.

Team: Emma Wright, Eryn Kennedy, Mara Van Aelst, Jayne Hurley, Nadine Hartigan, Abi Rainsford, Mollie O’Hora, Leah Moran, Abbie Lenihan, Robyn McNamara, Caragh Flynn, Ciara Mackey, Neve Clements & Emily Hurley.

U15 Girls, Newport Town AFC 2-2 Knigh Utd

U15 Girls Squad v Knigh Utd

Saturday, November 10 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Sarah Kelly & Aoife Kennedy

Knigh were the visitors to Derryleigh today and they arrived with a strong contingent. We were very sluggish at the start of the game and Knigh took full advantage and scored the opener. When we finally got going, some great running by Emily who then crossed into the box from which Aoife pounced on the loose ball to bring us level.

In the 2nd half we played a bit more football and a strike from Sarah outside the box put us in the lead. We switched off again and allowed Knigh to be 2 against 1 in our box and they drew level. In fairness the girls tried their best to get a winner and when we thought Caragh had scored, it was ruled offside.

A shout out to Abi who played her first game for NTAFC today and our best wishes to Aoife whom we hope makes a full and quick recovery after her injury today.

U15 Girls, Newport Town AFC 4-1 Ballymackey

Saturday, October 13 2018 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Caragh Flynn, Leah Moran & Chelsea King 2

Ballymackey always give us a good game and today was no different. From the start both defences were solid and it was going to take something special to open the scoring. Nadine, Sarah and Aisling worked very hard on the left side trying to get that breakthrough and were very unlucky not to. The goal finally came from the equally hard working right side of Eryn, Robyn and Neve, when Robyn crossed for Caragh whose initial shot was saved but she fought for the rebound and was rewarded with a goal. Emma pulled off a great save soon after and then Jayne and Mollie made sure nothing got through for the remainder of the half.

In the 2nd half we put on fresh legs and we started pressing higher up the pitch, leading to Leah scoring with a great strike from 25 metres. With some good play by Ciara who tried to put Chelsea through but was fouled and Chelsea scored from the resultant free kick. Aoife played Chelsea through from the halfway line and she went on to slot the ball passed the keeper. Emma was unlucky not to get a touch to a strike from a Ballymackey player which led to their goal. Overall, a great display from the girls #greatbunchofgirls
