Following 2 disappointing league defeats, the A team rebounded with an emphatic 6-0 win at home to Granville on Sunday morning. The scoreline reflected Newport’s dominance of the game and the scorers were Christy Doyle (2), Dave Kenendy (2), Elliott Slattery and Kalem Harte. The lads are now on a Christmas break until January 6 and will then face into a busy January with games in the league, Lawson Cup and the FAI Junior Cup game away to Aisling Annacotty on the weekend of January 12/13.
Unfortunately the U17s were on the wrong end of a 5-1 defeat at home to a very strong Fairview side on Sunday afternoon. Jack O’Carroll scored Newport’s consolation goal from the penalty spot.
Junior football resumes on January 6, when the A team welcome Northside Legacy to Derryleigh Park (11am) in the Lawson Cup and the U18s welcome Shelbourne in the Ger Ryan Youth Cup (2.15pm).
The scheduled schoolgirl games at the weekend were cancelled due to the poor weather. Games will resume on Saturday, January 5 with the even age groups.

Finally, the soccer club would like to wish everyone in Newport and surrounding areas, especially our players, coaches, supporters, sponsors and their families a very peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year. Thank you to all our club sponsors and local businesses for their support throughout the year and to everyone who supported the club’s various fundraising efforts throughout the year. Without people’s generosity and goodwill towards the soccer club, it would not be possible to progress the club forward.
