Derryleigh Diary – February 11 2018

Unfortunately the snow put paid to the junior games that were scheduled last weekend. Our A team had been due to play Ballynanty Rovers in the Lawson cup and the U17s’s game away to Corbally was also snowed off.

Next Sunday, the B’s are home to Star Rovers (11am), the C’s are away to Hyde Rangers (2pm) and the U18’s are away to Mungret Regional in the Ger Ryan Youth Cup (2pm).

Due to the weather conditions and a lot of pitches in Limerick being unplayable, the Limerick League cancelled all schoolboy games last weekend. The LDSL have informed clubs that due to the backlog of games, fixtures will be scheduled for Bank Holiday Monday, March 19th as well as a full programme of fixtures over the Easter weekend.

Next Saturday, weather permitting, both our U11 sides are in action and both are away. Greens play Bridge Celtic (11am) and the Whites play Regional (12.30pm). Both our U13 sides have games with the A’s at home to Caherdavin (11am) and the B’s away to Granville (12.30pm). Lastly the U15A side are away to Aisling Annacotty (11am).

The North Tip schoolgirl leagues went ahead on pitches that were deemed playable and thankfully Derryleigh Park has really stood up to the winter weather. Our U14 girls welcomed near neighbours Birdhill to Derryleigh Park on Saturday morning and recorded an excellent 6-2 victory in a cracking local derby. Abbie Lenihan was in fine form with 4 goals with Shauna Pearson & Caragh Flynn also on the score-sheet. Unfortunately, the U12’s lost at home to Clodiagh Rangers on a 0-1 scoreline.

Next Saturday, the U13 are away to Knigh Utd (12pm) and the U15s are away to Birdhill (12.30pm).

Soccer Sisters Easter Camp
Online booking is now open on for our FAI Aviva Soccer Sisters Easter Camp. The camp will run over two days, March 28 & 29 (Wed & Thurs). Last year, our club held the largest Soccer Sisters camp in the country and with the increased number of girls now playing soccer in our club & beyond, we again expect there to be a massive demand for places on our camp. Spaces are limited and there’s already been a number of bookings so please book soon to avoid disappointment. The cost is €30, which includes an exclusive playing kit, football and certificate plus two days of fun-filled coaching from FAI accredited coaches! The camp is open to girls between the ages of 6 & 14.

Clothes Collection
Our clothes collection continues and you can drop your bags of unwanted clothes to Derryleigh Park every Saturday during February from 10am-2pm. We will accept old clothes, shoes (in pairs), handbags, blankets & bed linen (NO duvets/pillows).

Coaching Badges
Well done to our U17 players, Killian O’Malley & Jack Noble, who last weekend completed their FAI Coach Education, Kickstart/PDP1 coaching course. Thanks to the FAI Regional Development Officers James Scott and Stephen Quinn for organising a superb coaching course. It’s great to see some of our younger players looking to take an interest in coaching.

Boogie Wonderland
Be sure to mark Saturday, May 19 in your diaries, as following on from the huge success of last year’s 80’s Night, we will be holding a Boogie Wonderland Night to include music from the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s in the Freigh Inn. Lots more details to follow as we get closer to the date.

There was no winner of the club’s lotto on Saturday, February 10 and this week’s jackpot is €2,850 with the next draw taking place on Saturday, February 10 in Ryan’s Bar. The numbers drawn were 18, 21, 23 & 30. Thanks as always to everyone who supports the club’s main fund raiser.
