The U18 Youths bounced back from last week’s disappointing result in the Ger Ryan Youth Cup with a solid 4-2 win at home to Shelbourne courtesy of 2 goals from in-form striker, Jack O’Carroll, and one apiece from team captain, Darren Collins and Jack Ryan Cooper on his debut for the Youths. This win closes the gap to league leaders, Cals to just 3 points. Cals will be the visitors to Derryleigh Park next Sunday at 2.15pm in a top of the table clash.
The C team, who have been having a difficult season so far, recorded a morale-boosting 2-2 draw away to Athlunkard Villa on the astro-turf in U.L. on Sunday morning. Newport had been leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Wayne Collins & Dan Powell but Athlunkard scored the equaliser to deny the C team their first win of the season. Hopefully this game can be the turning-point of the season and set them up for a decent cup run. Special mention for U17 player, John Ryan Rose, who had a fine game at right back and then went on to play the full game for the U18s in the afternoon.
Next weekend’s fixtures sees the A team welcome Hyde Rangers to Derryleigh Park in the third round of the Lawson Cup. Hyde will provide a very tough challenge as they currently lead Div 2A, with 10 wins from 10 games, scoring 51 goals in the process and only conceding 7 and fresh off the back of a 5-0 win over Charleville B. Newport are under no illusion of the difficult task that lies ahead and are going to have to play to their very best to have any chance of progressing to the quarter-final stage. Kick-off in Derryleigh is at 2.15pm.
The U18s welcome Cals to Derryleigh in a top-of-the table league clash at 2.15pm and the Bs are away to Aisling Annacotty in the league, also at 2.15pm.

Congrats to the U17 boys team from St. Marys’ Secondary School, Newport who are through to a FAI Schools Munster semi-final following a hard-fought but well-deserved 2-1 extra-time win against PBC Cork thanks to goals from Jake Dillon & Jay Ryan. The squad features a big number of our club players so it’s great to see the connection between club & school paying dividends. The lads will play De La Salle Cork in the semi-final with details TBA.
Our U12 girls were the only side in action at the weekend and unfortunately a depleted Newport side suffered a loss away to a very strong Killavilla team.
Next Saturday the U18 girls are home to Birdhill (2pm) and the U15 girls are away to Knigh (11.45am).
