The Derryleigh Diary – Week 52 2014

The soccer club would like to wish everyone in the Newport area, especially our players, coaches, supporters, sponsors and their families a very happy New Year and hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

Due to the bad weather and the scheduled Christmas break, there has been no on-field activity. However football is scheduled to resume next weekend in both the junior and schoolboy/girl sections. The main event will be the Junior’s first round Lawson Cup game away to fellow Div 1A team, Wembley Rovers. The lads have been training over the Christmas and hopefully this will stand to them next weekend.

Santa Claus visited Derryleigh Park on the Friday before Christmas to visit our younger players and hand out some presents. The kids were all delighted to meet him and the club are delighted that he took time out of his busy Christmas schedule to visit Newport.

Our Xmas Draw took place in Sullivan’s on Sunday, December 21 and was well attended. Full details of all the prize winners and our sponsors later in the Newsletter.

On St. Stephen’s Day, the annual charity game played between the Chairman’s selection and the Captain’s selection took place in Derryleigh Park. Let’s just say that the result was never in doubt!

Happy New Year!
