U11 Blues, Janesboro v Newport Town AFC Blues (non-competitive)

Saturday, November 5 2016 (Pearse Stadium)

An 11 goal thriller was to be seen in Pearse Stadium in Janesboro. The first half saw some good offensive play from both teams and also some excellent goalkeeping from both goalkeepers. Early in the first half, Senan Ryan was forced to make some brilliant saves from promising Janesboro attacks. Despite consecutive saves from Senan, Janesboro hit the post which led to the first goal of the match. This goal gave Janesboro the upper hand as they kept applying pressure to the Newport defenders. However, Newport tried to regain a hold on the game with a long range effort from Ciaran Carey which went narrowly wide. Against the run of play and despite excellent defending by Alex o Neill, Janesboro got a second goal. The tide turned as Newport began putting pressure on Janesboro. Long shots by Conor Molamphy and great hassling by the Newport strikers created a goal from a long range effort by David O Brien. Aaron Joyce was exceptional that day by breaking up the Janesboro attack which eased the pressure on our defenders. The pressure became too much for Newport as Janesboro ran through and scored another goal. Approaching half time Janesboro were awarded a penalty. Even though Senan Ryan made an amazing save, the luck was with the Janesboro striker as the ball bounced in front of him and he passed the ball into the Newport net.

The second half saw a different Newport as they started the half much stronger. Great tackling by Alex O’Neill and some great saves by Senan kept Newport in the game. A great break from Conor Molamphy saw the ball strike the back of the Janesboro net. Game on! Alex o Neill and David O’Brien were solid in defence. Alex and David now began to exert their influence and their controlled passing out from the back allowed Newport the way back into the game. They were a solid unit and kept the Janesboro strikers quiet for almost the entirety of the second half. Conor Molamphy was on the score sheet again as he pounced on a mishap in the Janesboro defence. Aaron Joyce and Ciaran Carey were excellent in the centre of the park with both players playing some excellent football. Nathan Keppel was through on goal but was taken down just outside the Janesboro box which created an excellent opportunity for the Newport strikers. A long range effort by Conor Molamphy hit the bar and the ever alert Ciaran Carey was on hand to bury the ball into the Janesboro goal. At the other end Janesboro put in an excellent ball from a corner which took a very unfortunate deflection ending up in the Newport goal. Nathan Keppel now leading the attack and pressing hard all day, then created an excellent opportunity up front and his powerful shot brought out the very best in the Janesboro keeper. Newport were now on top and chasing a winning goal but against the run of play Janesboro found themselves through on goal and scored in the dying moments of the game. The fulltime whistle saw an end to an excellent performance by the Newport lads. It was an exceptional game and the boys did themselves proud. Thanks to all that attended
