Newport U11 Blue Team hosted Carew Park on Wednesday evening in Derryleigh Park in what was a cracking game. Newport started brightly with Ciaran Carey dominating midfield. All the team was working hard with Dylan Jones and Aaron Joyce constantly making great runs and putting the Carew Park defence under pressure. This paid off in the 10th minute when Conor Molamphy finished to the net. Newport continued to press and were rewarded shortly after when Aaron Joyce scored a great goal from a brilliant through ball delivered by Ciaran Carey. At the other end Damien O’Brien and James Delahunty were dominant and Conor Molamphy was putting in his usual strong performance in midfield. Just before half time Luke Kennedy put in 2 great corners with Martin McCabe finishing to the net from the second corner with a confident finish.
The second half proved a different story with Carew Park coming back strongly into the game. David O’Brien and Alex O’Neill fought bravely to stem the flow of attacks but Carew Park eventually scored. Nathan Kepple kept running strongly up front but again Carew Park kept the pressure on and scored twice more. Newport pulled themselves together and showed great character till the end of the game. It started at the back with Cillian Collins making a great save in goals. The team was spurred on and Aaron Joyce finished to the net to take the pressure off Newport. Senan Ryan was in flying from up front and won a number of frees, one of which he buried to the net. This capped a determined and solid performance from Newport who continue to improve as the season goes on.
Well done to Cathriona, the coaches and the boys.
