U14 Div 1, Newport Town AFC A 6-0 Mungret Regional B

Saturday, February 23 2019 (Derryleigh Park)

Scorers: Nathan Bridgeman 3, Conor Brett 2 & Callum O’Connell

The Calendar year season is underway and Newport secured their first three points against a well organized Mungret B side in comfortable fashion.

The winter break is over and Newport should be challenging for honors this year. There will be several players fighting for positions in what arguably is the strongest squad ever, that Managers David Brett and Richard Egan have worked with. Captain Mark Forde went up for the coin toss and Newport played against the wind for the first half.

Ryan O’, Jack, David and Conor J made up the back four and were barely tested in the first half. The stats showed that Newport were in the ascendancy in the first half chalking up 12 shots on goal. Not many were on target but Nathan clipped a shot on to the post after a great cross from Sean and Conor B finally broke the deadlock poaching the rebound.

Half time changes were made and Newport bossed the remainder of the match. Conor B made it 2-0 with a 25 yarder. Callum O’Connell scored a debut goal after his January transfer window switch from Lisnagry. Then Nathan Came back on to wrap the match with a quick fire hatrick.
