U16 Div 1 Cup Quarter-Final, Geraldines 0-7 Newport Town AFC

Tuesday, April 25 2018 (Garryowen)

Scorers: Jay Ryan 2, Jack Foley 2, Jack O’Carroll 2 & Johnny Ryan

Newport started brightest on a bright Wednesday evening and created early chances for Jack Foley and and Jay Ryan, but it was Jack O’Carroll who got Newport on the scoreboard after 10 minutes after winning, and converting a beautifully placed free kick out of reach of the keeper from 22 yards out.

Jack Foley converted at the back post after some neat play between Sean Freeney and Haytm Kamil down the right found him in the box with plenty of space, driving low and past the keeper. Newport dominated possession for the rest of the half before adding two quick goals just before the half. Jay Ryan headed home from Gavin Denihan cross from the left and Jack Foley shooting from outside the box to find the bottom corner again.

The 2nd half began much the same as the 1st with Newport dominating possession and it wasn’t long before the Geraldine’s net bulged again. Joey Kelly and Jack O’Carroll combined to set Jack Foley free on the left, Jack Foley’s inch perfect cross gave Johnny Ryan the chance to pass it neatly into the side netting, some excellent first touch football from the Newport team.

Newport scored again on the hour mark, Jack Foley’s corner was picked up at the back post by Gavin Denihan who chipped it back across, Jack O’Carroll rose highest to send the ball back across the keeper and into the corner.
Jay Ryan capped off an excellent Newport display by slotting the ball low to the keepers right after a perfectly weighted through ball from Johnny Ryan.

Newport performed solidly all over the pitch but Johnny Ryan, Jack O’Carroll and Jack Foley excelled in attack.
