Scorers: Jack O’Carroll & Ciaran Flynn
Hard luck to our U18 Youths who lost their cup semi-final away to Caherdavin on Saturday evening 3-2 after extra time, with Caherdavin scoring the winner in injury time of the second period of extra time. Newport took the lead in the 11th minute through a brilliant curled free kick from Jack O’Carroll. Caherdavin equalised just 6 mins later. The Limerick side then took the lead in the 62nd minute from a back post header from a corner. Newport showed great character to level the game in the 83rd minute when Ciaran Flynn lobbed the keeper from 25 yards out. Extra-time saw both sides have half chances and just as everyone was preparing for a penalty shootout, Newport were left devastated after conceding a late, late breakaway goal. A hard defeat to take but the lads can keep their heads held high as none of them left anything out on the pitch. Sport can be cruel. The Youths last game of the season is away to Cals next Sunday at 2pm.
