Scorer: Jack O’Carroll
The U18 Youths suffered a very disappointing 6-1 home defeat to Premier side Charleville on Sunday afternoon. Confidence was high before the game for a good performance but two soft goals early in the first half, after Newport had started brightly, took the wind out of the lads’ sails. Newport began chasing the game and became a bit loose & disjointed and the visitors scored three more goals to make it 5-0 at the break. At this stage it was damage limitation and a better second-half performance saw a bit of pride restored in the jersey. Charleville scored again but the hard-working Jack O’Carroll, scored a late consolation from the spot-kick after winning the penalty to leave the final score 6-1. Lack of consistency and the concession of soft goals is Newport’s problem this season and with 7 league games remaining, we are hoping that the lads will hit a run of form to finish the season strongly. They currently lie second in the league, so there is still a lot to play for.
