Fresh from last weekend’s FAI Junior Cup victory, Newport’s A team will be hoping to close the gap on league leaders, Moyross & Charleville, who are both not playing at the weekend when they welcome Cappamore to Derryleigh Park in the Premier A league on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is at 2pm and all support is very welcome. Newport will have to plan without the services of Christy O’Connor for the immediate future as a result of the leg injury sustained in the game last Sunday. However, the competition for places is very intense, so whoever steps in will be expected to carry out the job. Newport are currently on an excellent run of form with the only blip being the loss to Aisling in the Munster Junior Cup a few weeks back. Cappamore are always tricky opponents and Newport will have to be on top of their game if they hope to secure the 3 points on offer.
On Sunday morning, the B team are away to Cals in a big game, as both sides are towards the bottom of Div. 1B and 3 points would be a big prize to take away from the game. Newport won the earlier game this season between the sides but that was at home and Rathuard is always a difficult place to get a result. Kick-off is at 11am.
At the same time, the C team will also be in action when they play Shelbourne in Derryleigh Park. Newport have won their last 3 games in Div. 3A and will be hopeful of continuing their winning run.
