Juniors:
The Junior A side again had mixed fortunes during the week. On Tuesday evening we had a big 3-2 win at home to Moyross. We went 1-0 up on 15 mins courtesy of a Christy O’Connor header from a corner. Moyross equalised on 37 mins from a rebound from a Harry Ryan save that was goal bound. NTAFC scored on 52 mins to take the lead from a good corner from Ben Coleman. Jimmy Fyfe rose highest to head in off the crossbar. Moyross equalised 2 mins later. However, the best was saved til last when Elliott Slattery dipped in a brilliant free kick with 15 mins to go. That made it 4 wins from 5 games.

On Saturday evening, they travelled to play an in-form Charleville side and despite taking the lead on 15 minutes courtesy of a goal from Brian ‘Clemy’ O’Sullivan, the home side had a very strong second half and ran out 4-1 winners in the end. With the midweek evening games now drawing to a close, this will give the management time to get players back from injury and allow more recovery time between games.

The B’s were on the road to Athlunkard & Pallasgreen and unfortunately lost both games. The 2-1 defeat to Athlunkard was a hard one to take as Newport were the better side but failed to capitalise on the greater number of clear-cut chances. Colin Coleman scored the Newport goal. On Saturday evening, a very young Newport side faced a very experienced Pallasgreen side and it was the Co. Limerick side that took all three points on offer on a 6-3 scoreline. Kalem Harte scored 2, one an absolute belter and the other from the penalty spot. Youth player, Jay Ryan, scored the third.

The C team lost 2-1 at home to Mungret Regional C in a very entertaining & open contest. Bradley Roche gave Newport the lead in the first half but Mungret struck back with two goals of their own in the second half to leave the C team with a win and a loss in their first two games.

The U17s staged a late, late fightback at home to Holycross to make it four wins from four games to maintain top spot in Div 2. The lads were 2-0 down with 15 minutes to go but goals from Diarmuid O'Riordan, Conor Brett & Adam McEvoy snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Schoolboys:
The U16s played out an 11 goal thriller away to Fairview in the Premier League, only to concede a last minute goal to lose 6-5 in a great advertisement for schoolboy football. Seán Chitedze 3, Aaron Coleman & Adam Melichki were the Newport scorers.

The U15s lost 3-0 at home to Aisling Annacotty B in their opening Div 1 game.

The U14s were hoping to build on their opening day victory but they came up against an excellent Summerville side that won on a 7-1 scoreline in Portland Park. Despite the defeat, great credit is due to the boys for never giving up and keeping going to the final whistle. Calvin Doyle scored our consolation goal.

Our U13 sides were both in action in two very exciting games in Derryleigh Park. The A team won 4-1 at home to Lisnagry thanks to goals from Eoin MacCraith 2, Luke McIntyre & Scott Nugent. The B team played out a cracking 4-4 draw with Mungret Regional C. James Fahey with a hat-trick & John Crofton were the Newport scorers.

The U12 sides played their second games of the season on Saturday with both games taking place in Derryleigh Park. In the Premier Division the A team lost 3-1 to a very good Regional side with Aaron Lane scoring for Newport. The Bs recorded an excellent 3-2 win over Aisling Annacotty D with Darragh Healy (2) & Seamie Bridgeman the goal-scoring heroes for Newport.

The U11 schoolboys kicked off their season on Friday night with both teams away from home. The Red team travelled to Caherdavin and Greens played Corbally. It was great to see the boys back playing football and scoring lots of goals.

Finally, our U9 Nippers, boys & girls, enjoyed a very enjoyable non-competitive blitz away to Fairview on Saturday morning. It was brilliant to see our future super stars having so much fun. Thanks to the coaches & parents for all their encouragement and assistance.

U7 Newport Nippers:
We welcomed back the U7 Newport Nippers to training last Friday. It was great to see the 24 youngest of our club players having great fun. Training continues every Friday from 6-7pm on the astro-turf in Derryleigh Park. All boys & girls, born in 2014 & 2015 (that are in primary school) are welcome to come along with a parent/guardian. All children must bring their own water bottle (clearly labelled). Boots aren’t needed for astro-turf, so runners will be fine. It is essential that all parents/guardians download the Club App in advance as this will be used to contact and update parents. Nipper membership is €40 and membership can now be completed and paid online via the Club App or on our website. All players must bring a photocopy of a passport or birth cert.

Schoolgirls:
The schoolgirl season got underway at the weekend, when our U12 side travelled to play Borrisokane in the Cup. Unfortunately, the girls, who were short a few regulars, came up against a very strong Borrisokane side who advanced to the next round of the cup. Fia Linnane scored both of Newport’s goals. This week’s fixtures;

Monday, September 7
U16 Girls Cup, Killavilla v Newport Town AFC, 6.30pm (Villa Park)

Wednesday, September 9

Online Membership Registration
Players membership can now be registered and paid online via the club website or the Club App. All players must be registered and membership paid as soon as possible.

Club App
We’re asking everyone to download the club App as soon as possible. Our App is going to be a vital tool to enable us to carry out contact tracing, co-ordinate training sessions, complete online digital Health Questionnaire forms and also streamline our communication to all our players & parents during the return to football. The App is really easy to download and simple to use and it’s vital that all managers, junior players and parents download our App in time for the return of training and matches. Details on how to download the app are on our website.

There was no winner of this week’s club’s lotto and the jackpot is now €1,650 with the next draw taking place on Saturday, September 12 in the clubhouse. The numbers drawn were 13, 14, 15 & 28.
