Juniors:
The Junior A side suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Aisling Annacotty on Sunday morning. The visitors opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a counter-attack but youngster, Ben Coleman was coolness personified when he slotted home from close range in the 27th minute to draw Newport level. It was 1-1 at half time and Newport seemed to have things under control. Unfortunately, it was Aisling who again scored in the 60th minute to lead 2-1. Christy Doyle was introduced in the 70th minute and it was great to see him back in action after a lengthy lay-off. Within a couple of minutes, he was proving a handful and was very unlucky with three great chances, all within a few minutes of each other. Newport pressed hard for an equaliser and the crossbar came to Aisling’s rescue on three separate occasions. Try as they might, Newport couldn’t find a second goal and will see this as 3 points dropped. After 6 games, Newport now have 4 wins and 3 losses. Next up is the visit to Cappamore next Sunday morning.

The B’s had a win and a loss during the week. On Tuesday, they travelled to Charleville for the last of the midweek games and Youth player, Jay Ryan, scored a header in the very last minute of injury time to seal a great 3-2 win on the road. Kalem Harte continued his recent run of good form with another 2 goals. On Sunday, we welcomed promotion favourites, Regional Utd B to Derryleigh. The lads did very well in the first half, managing to contain a well-drilled Regional side. It was scoreless at half-time. Unfortunately, the visitors scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to give Newport a hill to climb. The lads responded well and began to take the game to Regional and worked a well-deserved goal by Colin Coleman to close the gap. Kalem Harte was then unlucky when his header was expertly touched onto the crossbar by the keeper. Newport just couldn’t find an equaliser and the city side were mightily relieved to hear the final whistle. Newport travel to play Mungret Regional B next Sunday morning.

The Cs also lost 2-1, when losing to Shelbourne B on Sunday morning. Stephen Carroll scored the Newport goal. The lads now have 1 win and 2 defeats in their opening three games.

Our U18s recorded an emphatic 6-0 win away to Mungret Regional on Sunday afternoon. Luke Ryan with a hat-trick, Jay Ryan, Daniel Egan and Diarmuid O’Riordan were the Newport scorers.

Schoolboys:
It was another busy week with midweek and weekend games taking place. Both U13 sides were in action last Monday evening. The A team beat a battling Ballynanty side 8-3, with goals from Leon O'Donoghue (3), Scott Nugent, Cormac Shanahan, Luke McIntyre, Conor Ryan, Ollie Roche. The B team lost 6-1 to Fairview Rangers but the highlight of the game was a cracking free kick from Cian O’Donoghue.

The U15s played out a very entertaining 0-0 draw at home to Lisnagry. Newport had a chance to win the game late on but the Lisnagry keeper pulled off a great save to deny them the 3 points.

On Saturday, both the U12 sides had games. Unfortunately the A team lost 5-0 away to a very good Caherdavin A side in the Premier div but the Bs had an excellent 2-1 win away to the Caherdavin B side in Div 3. It was a very close contest with Newport coming out on top. Newport went down 1-0 to Caherdavin in the first half but a goal by Oscar Rodrieguez got us level. Both sides had chances but a Conor Bailey free-kick gave Newport the lead with 10 mins to go. Well done to all the players.

The U14s played out a very exciting 3-3 draw at home to Geraldines, which was a brilliant game to watch, with some great displays from players on both sides. The Newport scorers were Zack Mooney, Scott Nugent & James Kiely.

Finally in competitive action, the U16s lost 4-1 at home in the Premier League against a well-drilled Shelbourne side. The scoreline was a little harsh on the lads but Shelbourne were worthy winners. Conor Brett scored to give Newport the lead in the first half.

Our U8 Nippers and U10 sides were in non-competitive action. The 8s travelled to play Aisling Annacotty and the 10s welcomed Aisling Annacotty to Derryleigh. Both games were very entertaining with some great goals scored. As with all non-competitive games, score lines aren’t recorded as these games are to let the players enjoy the game and have fun without the pressure of results.

Schoolgirls:
Our U15 & U18 schoolgirl sides were in cup action during the week with mixed results. The U15s lost 5-0 away to a very good Killavilla side. However, the U18s played Birdhill in a local derby and ran out 3-1 winners to advance to the next round, where they will play Killavilla next Saturday in Villa Park at 1pm. Rachel Carey, Ellie Kennedy & Emma Kett were the Newport scorers. In fact, Rachel Carey’s brilliant free-kick was shared on our social media and received the seal of approval from Irish International, Stephanie Roche.
